Job Description

The Community

Kamloops is a vibrant city of 100,000, at the northern extension of productive wine country in south central British Columbia. We sit in the middle of lakes, mountains, ski hills, and river systems. We enjoy biking, hiking, skiing, water sports, all right here in our backyard. Our community has an excellent educational system, organized sports, music, and theatre. There are amenities not often found in smaller urban centres. University affiliations provide rejuvenation and an atmosphere to keep learning.

The Practice

At Royal Inland Hospital, you will be key to inspiring hope and compassionate care. Discover a practice where you can make a difference through engaging work, enriching development, and unwavering patient focus.

Our diverse case mix will engage your clinical skills and critical thinking. As a regional tertiary hub, manage an array of conditions—from chronic diseases and acute issues to complex geriatric and trauma cases. Provide compassionate care across the lifespan, coordinating specialty care for pediatric, adult, and elderly patients. Serve the varied needs of our richly diverse population, including Indigenous communities who have called this land home since time immemorial, as well as new Canadians beginning their lives in our country. Expect continual stimulation from seasonal fluctuations and regional variations that shape our caseload. At RIH, find daily opportunities to make a difference through clinical excellence.

Our supportive team environment will empower you to excel. Work closely with experienced hospitalist colleagues invested in your success. Expect mentorship to continuously refine your skills and professional development to reach your goals. Our robust orientation will smoothly onboard you. Ongoing training will cater to your learning needs. Strong interdisciplinary relationships will ensure seamless collaboration and enhanced care. We will integrate you into our healthcare community, enabling you to do your best work. Our team will listen and help you thrive.

Lifelong learning matters here. Join regular collaborative interdisciplinary rounds to analyze complex cases with colleagues. Stay clinically sharp through supported conferences and CME reimbursement. Share your expertise with 12 family practice residents, UBC 3rd year clerks, and 4th year visiting students. For hospitalists passionate about teaching, these academic partnerships allow you to impart valued insights while refining your own skills through mentoring. Make an impact by training new providers, staying up-to-date, and learning from students.

At RIH, you’ll join fellow dedicated professionals in pursuing exceptional care. Discover comprehensive resources and growth opportunities in a supportive environment. Maintain focus on the heart of it all — achieving the best possible results for every patient.

The Hospital

The Royal Inland Hospital (RIH) is a 273-bed facility that serves as the referral centre for approximately 250,000 people and is located in the Thompson Cariboo Shuswap Health Service Area. As one of two Interior Health tertiary referral hospitals and Level 1 Trauma Centres, RIH receives over 250 major trauma and 72,000 ED visits per year. The Phil and Jennie Gaglardi Tower opened at RIH in the summer of 2022. Among other services, the tower includes child and adolescent mental-health and substance-use inpatient unit as well as a 30-bed general psychiatric unit (20 general and 10 high observation beds and 3 seclusion beds).

If you're a hospitalist motivated by intellectual curiosity, skillful collaboration, and unwavering compassion, we invite you to join RIH's supportive team. Apply today to live, work and play where others only vacation! It's better here!

Are you interested in being a hospitalist at RIH but prefer part-time hours? We welcome and accommodate that preference as well! We understand that work-life balance and flexibility are essential, and we value the contributions of talented specialists seeking part-time opportunities.

Set out on a locum adventure to immerse yourself in a transformative healthcare experience that will elevate your skills and ignite your passion for patient care. Blend your hospitalist expertise with the beauty of Kamloops, with the scenic tapestry of sagebrush-covered hills and the majestic Thompson River as the ultimate backdrop.
