Internal Medicine Site Lead – Prince County Hospital
Health PEI is seeking a dedicated and experienced physician to serve as the Internal Medicine Site Lead at the Prince County Hospital (PCH). This leadership role is pivotal in shaping the delivery of high-quality internal medicine services and fostering interdisciplinary collaboration.
Reporting to the Provincial Department of Medicine, the PCH Site Lead is responsible for providing on-site leadership for the Provincial Department of Medicine and supporting a reciprocal relationship between the Department’s medical staff at the PCH and the Provincial Department as a whole.
The PCH Site Lead works in partnership with members the Medical Affairs Office (MAO) and their department leadership colleagues to build, and maintain, collaborative networks, in order to ensure the overall functionality and development of the Department’s medical services and associated medical workforce.

Job Term:
- 0.1 FTE for a salaried physician is defined as 195 hours per year (approximately 3.75 hours per week).
- The position is offered as a part-time role, for a 2-year term, renewable based on performance and organizational needs.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Provide onsite leadership and foster collaboration between medical staff and Health PEI.
- Plan for, and ensure, the appropriate utilization of medical human resources for Department staff at the PCH (i.e., call schedule, approving leaves of absence, etc.).
- Support the Provincial Department Head of Medicine by providing comprehensive advice and recommendations using subject-matter expertise with respect to site-specific Departmental matters.
- Work collaboratively with the Provincial Department Head of Medicine to support regular performance appraisals for the Department’s medical staff at the PCH (in accordance with Medical Staff Bylaws).
- Work collaboratively with the Provincial Department Head of Medicine, and the MAO to review, assess and plan medical staff resources, workload and staffing to determine human resource requirements and address human resource concerns in support of providing continued quality medical services.
- Develop and suggest plan for the department development to provide necessary services for the growing needs and the population in the service area.
- When required, work with the Provincial Department Head of Medicine and the MAO to recruit Department medical staff (including locums).
- Promote a culture of respect and collegiality within the multidisciplinary IM team.
- Recommend equipment, pharmaceuticals, and therapeutic interventions required to provide needed diagnostic and treatment services to the patient population in the area.
- Coordinate accreditation preparedness and site visits.
- Participate in quality assurance and quality improvement (QA/QI) initiatives.
- Participate actively in various medical staff committees, as requested.
- The PCH Site Lead shall also perform such other duties and responsibilities as may be determined or required from time to time by Health PEI during the Term of this Contract.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Medical Degree from a recognized medical school in a relevant clinical specialty.
- Eligible for registration with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of PEI.
- Certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada,.
- Minimum of 3–5 years of relevant clinical practice experience.
- Minimum of 1–3 years of leadership experience in a health or medical field (demonstrated equivalencies will be considered).
- Knowledge of the PEI health care system, including relevant legislation, Medical Staff Bylaws, and the Physician Services Agreement.
- Familiarity with PCH IM workflow and work experience at PCH would be considered an asset.
Leadership Fee:
- $25,000
