Job Description

SECTION OF GENERAL INTERNAL MEDICINE
Internist
The Department of Internal Medicine
Rady Faculty of Health Sciences
University of Manitoba
Position number: 3927

The Department of Internal Medicine, Rady Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Manitoba, and Shared Health Manitoba invite applications for Physicians in the Department of Internal Medicine. The successful applicant will work closely with the Section of General Internal Medicine to provide inpatient and outpatient care at the Health Sciences Center, St. Boniface Hospital, and Grace Hospital.

The 66 faculty members in general internal medicine form a section that oversees the major in-patient and out-patient clinical care services at the three teaching hospitals in Winnipeg.  Section physicians provide clinical attending services on a variety of Clinical Teaching Units, Non-Teaching Units, Virtual Ward, Inpatient Consult Services, Screening coverage in the emergency rooms, and numerous ambulatory care clinics at Winnipeg’s tertiary care centres and acute care hospitals.  The practice provides exception breadth of clinical experience, with patients representing a wide range of disease processes and acuity – from common conditions to highly complex, acute illness. We have a diverse faculty with niche training including, but not limited to: Hypertension, Lipids, Bariatrics, OBIM, Thrombosis, Vascular Medicine, Medical Education, and POCUS. Our section is open to expanding other areas of focus.

The successful applicant will provide comprehensive, integrated care, treatment and support to all patients within General Internal Medicine. As part of the health care team, these Physicians must be able to interact in a positive manner with other members of the care team, patients and their families to create a pleasant working environment and to provide optimal patient care.

Qualifications:

Candidates must have qualifications in General Internal Medicine in the country of current practice and must be eligible for registration with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Manitoba. Certification by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada is required.  The Section of GIM is looking for physicians who have advanced training in POCUS or additional training in a clinical niche.

This is a nil academic daily stipend plus fee for service position, with a start date of as soon as possible based on the successful candidate’s availability, for a term to be negotiated renewable upon favorable review.

The City of Winnipeg (www.tourismwinnipeg.com), located where the Red and Assiniboine Rivers meet, is recognized for its vibrant, multicultural community and diverse culture. The city, with a growing population of more than 850,000, is home to internationally renowned festivals, galleries and museums, the historic Exchange District and The Forks, and ever-expanding research, education, and business sectors. From the Hudson Bay waters, across the farmland fields, to the pulse of the cities and towns, The Province of Manitoba’s (www.travelmanitoba.com) people and places – its 100,000 lakes, 92 provincial parks, winding river valleys and storied prairie skies – inspire.

An inclusive, open and diverse community is essential to excellence and fosters voices that have been ignored or discouraged. To address the Rady Faculty of Health Sciences commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion, and in recognition of the underrepresentation of members of historically and currently excluded groups, we take proactive measures including implicit bias training for all hiring panels. We strive for diversity and cultural safety throughout the hiring process (hiring panels, short-list of candidates, interviews). We encourage you to self-identify any aspect of diversity in your cover letter.
Shared Health and the University of Manitoba is committed to the principles of equity, diversity & inclusion and to promoting opportunities in hiring, promotion and tenure (where applicable) for systemically marginalized groups who have been excluded from full participation at the University and the larger community including Indigenous Peoples, women, racialized persons, persons with disabilities and those who identify as 2SLGBTQIA+ (Two Spirit, lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, questioning, intersex, asexual and other diverse sexual identities). All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply; however, Canadian citizens and permanent residents will be given priority.

Application materials, including letters of reference, will be handled in accordance with the protection of privacy provision of “The Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy” (Manitoba).  Please note that curriculum vitae may be provided to participating members of the search process.

The position will remain open until filled.

Interested applicants should submit their application including curriculum vitae, a vision statement, and the names (and contact information) for three references.
