HOSPITALIST - INTERNAL MEDICINE

Sault Area Hospital (SAH) is a state-of-the-art facility that opened in March 2011.   SAH provides emergency, primary, secondary, selected tertiary and long-term care healthcare services to the city and the District of Algoma with a catchment population of approximately 115,000.

The internal medicine program is represented by specialists in respirology, cardiology, oncology, hematology, gastroenterology, nephrology, neurology, geriatrics, infectious diseases, endocrinology, geriatrics, infectious diseases and a 12 bed closed ICU. SAH has both a Family Medicine Hospitalist program and an Internal Medicine Hospitalist program. There is full support by all surgical specialties, except cardiac & neurosurgery.

Hospitalist General Internal Medicine practice provides for both part-time duties of less than 170 days per year or full-time duties of greater than 170 days up to a maximum of 240 days per year. This provides for an anticipated annual income of between $320-462k without any overhead. Duties would include coverage of the following:

• General Internal Medicine Unit
• Acute Admission Unit

Options exist for:

• ICU call or cross-appointment
• ED Medical Consult Service
• Medical follow up Care Clinic
• Pre-operative clinic

Sault Ste. Marie is located on the St. Mary’s River between Lake Huron and Lake Superior on the U.S. border. The Sault has all the amenities of a regional urban centre, with both the Canadian wilderness and extraordinary vacation areas in Michigan just minutes away. Both winter and summer outdoor activities abound with a strong cultural basis in the arts. The school system is excellent, and a multitude of sports and artistic opportunities for children and adults alike.

Affiliation with the Northern Ontario School of Medicine (NOSM) provides the opportunity to teach residents and medical students. 

This position is eligible for a community incentive and relocation allowance, as well as Ontario Ministry of Health incentives offered through the Northern Rural Recruitment & Retention Initiative and the Northern Specialist APP.
