Job Description
Maternal-Fetal Medicine Job Share at PRHC
PRHC is proud to be recognized as one of the top 20 employers nationwide in the healthcare and social services category, and 199 overall among 300 Canadian employers across all sectors, on the Canada’s Best Employers list released by Forbes in 2025.
American-trained physicians are encouraged to apply — we provide assistance with work permits if needed.
The Opportunity
The department of Obstetrics/Gynecology at Peterborough Regional Health Centre (PRHC)
is seeking a maternal-fetal medicine (MFM) specialist to join our team!
Our current call group consists of seven (7) generalists and one maternal-fetal medicine specialist. Our recruit would share a full-time position with our current MFM. The partnership would together be responsible for sharing call, reading ultrasound, providing high-risk consultations and prenatal care, and providing other high-risk pregnancy services such as amniocentesis and cerclage placement. When not on service, other work opportunities would include assisting in the gynecology Operating Room (OR) or participating in abortion care, if desired. Currently our MFM specialist is fee-for-service, but we are actively exploring alternative options for remuneration.
Our Labour & Delivery unit welcomes around 1,700 babies each year, has its own dedicated OR, and is attached to PRHC’s Level 2B NICU. Our hospital has an adult ICU and full-time genetics service. PRHC is the referral centre for the group of five hospitals in the region. We also have an excellent working relationship with the MFM group at Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto.
This is an exciting time to join the OB/GYN team at PRHC! We have big plans for the coming years. We are exploring new opportunities to enhance our Women’s and Children’s program, developing formal relationships with the nearby community hospitals for which we serve as the referral centre, and continuing to partner and work closely with individuals and organizations in the greater Peterborough community. For those who are interested in quality improvement, in creative partnerships, and in leadership, this job will be of particular interest!
Live Better
We are also a group of physicians committed to work-life balance, and anticipate that candidates seeking a job share are apt to feel similarly! We value family time, mental health, and the freedom to pursue hobbies and leisure activities. We are hoping to recruit someone who is not only a skilled and compassionate physician, but who shares these values. We encourage and welcome fellows and locum physicians to come test the waters and see if we may be a good fit. Peterborough is located 90 minutes north-east of Toronto, making it a convenient yet peaceful alternative to city living. For those who love the outdoors, the area offers easy access to cottage country, just 20 minutes away. With Trent University and Fleming College in the area, along with a growing business sector, the opportunities here are abundant.
