NEUROLOGISTS
Sault Ste. Marie is looking to recruit neurologists to provide general Neurology services in inpatient and outpatient settings. Currently we have a compliment of one fulltime neurologist and as well as a locum providing services one week per month. We have diagnostic imaging support including 1.5 Tesla MRI and two CT Scanners with access to interventional radiology. We also have EEG services.
We envision expanding our services to include:
- Participation in the hospital-based secondary stroke prevention program
- Availability for inpatient consultations
- Optional participation in the acute stroke call program
- Development of an EMG program
The current neurology services are supported by other specialists in cardiology, critical care, gastroenterology, geriatrics, hematology, infectious disease, nephrology, oncology, respirology and rheumatology. The hospital supports a full-time pulmonary function lab, endoscopy unit, non-interventional and interventional cardiac cath lab, nuclear medicine department and ultrasonography.
For physicians interested in teaching medical students and residents, there are opportunities to obtain faculty appointments with the Northern Ontario School of Medicine (NOSM) and faculty development & research with the Sault Ste. Marie Academic Medical Association.

Sault Area Hospital (SAH) is a state-of-the-art facility which opened in 2011. With funding for 291 inpatient beds and 14 closed ICU beds, SAH provides emergency, primary, secondary, selected tertiary and long-term care healthcare services to the city and the District of Algoma with a catchment population of approximately 115,000.
Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario is located on the Canadian/U.S. border between Lake Huron and Lake Superior. The “Soo” has all the amenities of a regional urban centre. We are near spectacular provincial and national parks where many winter and summer activities are available. There is a strong cultural and arts basis in the community. We have educational opportunities including public and separate school systems as well as two universities and a college. Sault Ste.
