Job Description
The successful candidate will have comprehensive medical and surgical expertise in the identification, work up, and treatment of adult and pediatric ophthalmic diseases, and an experienced surgeon who can expertly teach residents cataract surgery. Operating room time at the Royal Alexandra Hospital and designated chartered surgical facilities is available.
The successful candidate will participate in the regional ophthalmology call schedule onsite at the Royal Alexandra Hospital and monthly clinics at the Royal Alexandra Hospital as required. The University of Alberta prefers a candidate with a proven track record of publication in peer reviewed journals with research and clinical teaching experience. Participation in clinical and university committees is expected.
Applicants must be licensed in good standing, or eligible for licensure, with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA). Candidates will have completed a residency in ophthalmology and be expert in cataract surgery. Additional subspecialty training is an asset but not essential.

The Department of Ophthalmology’s Eye Institute of Alberta (EIA) is a Center of Excellence for all levels of ophthalmic care. It serves a population of over 3 million people in the Edmonton region, the northern areas of Alberta, British Columbia, Saskatchewan as well as the Northwest and Yukon Territories. The hub for the EIA is the Royal Alexandra Hospital (RAH). The Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences consists of over 40 staff ophthalmologists who work as physicians and surgeons, with teaching appointments within the FOMD at the University of Alberta.
