Description:
The Department of Surgery, Alberta Health Services – Calgary Zone invites applications for a 1.0 FTE Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon to join the Section of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. It is requirement that the successful candidate hold a dental degree and residency training in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, with demonstrated integration of medical and surgical expertise. It would be considered an asset to possess formal medical degree training (MD or equivalent and / or the successful candidate is preferred to hold master’s-level research training with experience in clinical, translational, or outcomes-based research, and to participate in scholarly activity and quality improvement initiatives within the Section.
In collaboration with section members, the candidate will provide care for an increasing volume of complex oral and maxillofacial conditions, including pediatric maxillofacial surgery, maxillofacial and oral pathology, temporomandibular joint disorders, trauma, obstructive sleep apnea surgical management, and reconstructive surgery, as well as general OMFS services.
The surgeon will share operative time at Alberta Children’s hospital (ACH) and the Peter Lougheed Centre (PLC) and support coverage in OMFS ambulatory clinics at the Arthur J.E. Child Comprehensive Cancer Centre (ACCC) and ACH as needed for up to four days per month.
In addition to clinical and academic duties, the candidate must demonstrate a willingness to support administrative and service-related roles, including participation in section governance, program development, and operational activities aligned with Department of Surgery and AHS priorities. The full‑time equivalent (1.0 FTE) appointment will consist of approximately 80% clinical duties and 20 % non-clinical (research activities, education and teaching, administration) responsibilities. These allocations may be adjusted in the future to reflect the operational needs of your section and clinical site. The successful applicant will participate in the OMFS call schedule in accordance with Section and Alberta Health Services policies.
In addition to what was mentioned above, there will be an expectation for contribution to education of OMF surgery fellow, hospital dentistry residents, ands off-service residents working in the OMFS section. The successful candidate would also assist in the provision of section and departmental administrative duties taking a leadership role in 1 or 2 areas of service provision.
Qualifications:
College of Dental Surgeons of Alberta permit with Specialty in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
Degree in Dentistry (DDS/DMD).
FRCD(D) Fellowship in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
Must read, write, and speak English.
All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply however, Canadians and Permanent Residents will be given priority. Fellowship training in OMFS subspecialties and a medical degree will be preferred. Administrative experience and commitment to education would also be considered an asset.
