Job Description

The Department of Surgery (www.surgery.queensu.ca) at Queen’s University is seeking an Academic Orthopaedic Surgeon position specializing in lower limb reconstruction and revision arthroplasty surgery. The candidate will have completed a minimum of one year of arthroplasty fellowship training at the commencement of their appointment or have been practicing lower limb arthroplasty reconstruction with an interest in an academic career. Additional fellowship training, a Masters or PhD would also be advantageous. The successful candidate will be expected to have clinical expertise in hip and knee arthroplasty including revision surgery. The preferred candidate must have an excellent record of success working in a multi-disciplinary clinical environment. They must demonstrate strong potential for outstanding educational contributions and significant academic and scholarly research in line with the mission of the Division of Orthopaedic Surgery. Evidence of current involvement and commitment to research through the submission of a research dossier outlining an academic plan and career goals is requested. Applicants will also be involved in undergraduate and post-graduate medical education. Submission of an educational dossier is encouraged.

Qualified applicants will hold an MD degree (or equivalent), and have completed postgraduate / fellowship qualifications prior to appointment. Candidates must be eligible for licensure by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. Preference will be given to those who either hold or are eligible for certification by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. Preference will be given to candidates with an advanced degree.

The successful candidate will be a full-time member of the Division of Orthopaedic Surgery and participate in the orthopaedic surgery on-call schedule at Kingston Health Sciences Centre. The successful candidate will also be expected to contribute to the teaching, supervision, and mentorship of undergraduate, graduate, postgraduate students and fellows.

Members of the Department of Surgery enjoy a competitive compensation package, including a generous benefits plan. Academic rank will be commensurate with experience.

Faculty and their dependents are eligible for an extensive benefits package including prescription drug coverage, vision care, dental care, long term disability insurance, life insurance and access to the Employee and Family Assistance Program. Employees also participate in a pension plan. Tuition assistance is available for qualifying employees, their spouses and dependent children. Queen’s values families and is pleased to provide a ‘top up’ to government parental leave benefits for eligible employees on maternity/parental leave. In addition, Queen’s provides partial reimbursement for eligible daycare expenses for employees with dependent children in daycare. For more information on employee benefits, see Queen’s Human Resources.

Queen’s University is recognized nationally for the quality of its undergraduate and graduate programs, which attracts outstanding students. Queen’s University is an integral part of the vibrant Kingston community in the heart of the Thousand Islands region of southeastern Ontario. It has a community spirit and amenities unmatched by any other Canadian university. The University and the region offer an outstanding academic and community environment (www.queensu.ca).

Prior to May 1, 2022, the University required all students, faculty, staff, and visitors (including contractors) to declare their COVID-19 vaccination status and provide proof that they were fully vaccinated or had an approved accommodation to engage in in-person University activities. These requirements were suspended May 1, 2022. However, they remain in effect for students, staff, and faculty in workplaces, including hospitals, where patient care is provided and/or where the work duties or educational requirements of the position involve or support patient care.
