Permanent Full-Time
Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario is located on the St. Mary’s River between Lake Huron and Lake Superior on the U.S. /Canadian border. The Sault has all the amenities of a regional urban centre, with both the Canadian wilderness and extraordinary vacation areas in northern Ontario and Michigan just minutes away. There is a strong cultural and arts basis in the community, and both winter and summer outdoor activities abound. The Sault has an excellent school system and offers a multitude of sports and artistic opportunities for children and adults alike. Sault Ste. Marie is served by three Canadian airlines as well as one major U.S. airline.
Sault Area Hospital (SAH) is a state-of-the-art facility opened in 2011. Candidates should have skills that complement these group duties. As part of the forensic registry in Ontario, the ability to perform medicolegal autopsies as a Registered Pathologist in Ontario is a strong asset; particularly a candidate with forensic pathology subspecialty also interested in concurrently practicing general/anatomical pathology. Other subspecialty fellowship training will also be considered. On the medical administration and leadership side, there is opportunity for roles within the department and/or hospital. Our laboratory medicine program is also supported by a partnership with a large academic center to which you would have access to in your daily work.
Candidates must possess or be eligible for an unrestricted license to practice medicine in Ontario with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario, and must hold or be eligible for fellowship in General Pathology or Anatomical Pathology with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. There is flexibility with the starting date.
