Pathology Practice Opportunity
Health Sciences North/Horizon Santé-Nord (HSN) is recruiting 3 full time permanent Pathologists who have a keen interest in affecting change within its dynamic health care system. As the tertiary care referral centre for the entire Northeastern Ontario region, HSN serves a catchment population of over 600,000 residents and hosts the Northeastern Ontario Regional Cancer Centre.
We are seeking general (AP/CP) or AP Pathologists to join our well-established group of 11 Pathologists who provide pathology and laboratory support services to HSN and other hospitals throughout Northeastern Ontario. Our team provides a broad range of services for the following laboratory sections: surgical pathology and cytology, hematopathology including flow cytometry, neuropathology, transfusion medicine, forensics, genomics, histology and immunohistochemistry, microbiology, and chemistry. The team also includes a Biochemist, Medical Microbiologist, and Laboratory Cytogeneticist.
Duties will include general surgical pathology, cytology, and frozen sections, with opportunities to contribute in other areas such as autopsy, genomics and laboratory management. Surgical Pathology Fellowship or equivalent experience is preferred, with additional subspecialty fellowships considered an asset. Expertise in Neuropathology, Head and Neck, Cytology, Genomics, or Transfusion Medicine are particularly desirable but other subspecialty training will be considered. Start date is flexible.
Candidates should have solid training in anatomic and clinical pathology with both general and specialty skills that can complement those of the current group. Experience or an interest in laboratory management is also desirable. Locum opportunities are also available.
In addition to routine service work, pathologists at HSN are also encouraged to participate in research at the affiliated HSN Research Institute (HSNRI) and are required to seek faculty appointments at the Northern Ontario School of Medicine (NOSM). Most clinical and academic work is completed at the HSN main site, 41 Ramsey Lake Road. Compensation is fee for service originating from the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long Term Care and the Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP). This is a partnership track position with a straightforward path to shareholder status within first two years of practice.

Sudbury is a bilingual community, and offers a variety of excellent elementary, secondary, and post-secondary education institutions. Notre région offre ses services en anglais et en français et nous encourageons les candidats bilingues à faire demande.
Candidates must be eligible for licensure by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO) and have obtained, or be eligible to obtain, specialty qualifications from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and/or the American Board of Pathology. Consideration will be given to physicians with US postgraduate training and certification, including J1 visa holders.
