Radiology Practice Opportunities
Join Northeastern Ontario’s healthcare leader
Health Sciences North (HSN) is recruiting health care professionals who have a keen interest in affecting change within its dynamic health care system. As the tertiary care referral centre for the entire Northeastern Ontario region, HSN serves a catchment population of over 600,000 residents.
The Department of Medical Imaging at Health Sciences North is currently recruiting Radiologists with Women’s Imaging Fellowship training, Body Imaging Fellowship training, Diagnostic Neuroradiology training and/or training in Musculoskeletal Imaging. The Department offers flexibility in scheduling, a medically diverse environment, and an opportunity for great personal and professional growth.
The Medical Imaging Department at HSN utilizes state-of-the-art technology to perform a wide range of diagnostic and interventional procedures. The department operates two GE Revolution CT scanners (installed in 2018 and 2024) and two MRI scanners—a 1.5T GE Signa system (upgraded in February 2022) and a 3T Siemens Vida system (installed in September 2021).
Each year, the department performs approximately 38,000 ultrasound exams, 55,000 CT exams, and 18,000 MRI exams, providing timely imaging access for patients across Northeastern Ontario—closer to home. The majority of studies focus on body imaging, with neuroradiology comprising roughly 15,000 brain, head & neck, and spine CTs and 10,000 MRIs annually. Our musculoskeletal (MSK) practice includes about 4,000 MRIs each year, along with interventional procedures such as MR arthrograms.
HSN also serves as a tertiary breast screening centre, offering a comprehensive high-risk breast screening program, diagnostic assessments, and more than 15,000 digital screening and diagnostic mammograms annually. As an Ontario Breast Screening Program (OBSP) High-Risk site, HSN performs approximately 200 breast MRIs per year, along with 100 stereotactic and over 300 ultrasound-guided core biopsies annually.
In addition, HSN is the regional referral centre for gynecologic and obstetric imaging for the North East LHIN, with a growing volume of pelvic MRI studies. The women’s imaging MRI program continues to expand, supported by the installation of the new 3T Siemens Vida MRI scanner.
