Job Description
Alberta Health Services, South Zone, and the Department of Surgery at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital, invites applications for a Plastic Surgeon to establish a full-time practice in the community of Medicine Hat. This position requires a scope of practice that includes Community Clinic, Inpatient & Outpatient Services, Emergency Consults, and Specialist On-Call Coverage.
Responsibilities include but not limited to:
- Reside in and have their primary residence within the community of Medicine Hat;
- Establish and maintain full time community-based practice within the community;
- Obtain and maintain an AHS Medical Staff Appointment and appropriate privileges to provide the Services;
- Provide call assistance as per call schedules, including full time participation in the Plastic Surgery call schedule, as required;
- Provide inpatient consultations at MHRH to the Zone Clinical Department of Surgery, subsection of Plastic Surgery, and community consultations within the community of Medicine Hat.
- Abide by the AHS Medical Staff Bylaws, the AHS Medical Staff Rules and AHS policies;
- Participate in quality improvement programs and initiatives undertaken within the Zone Clinical Department of Sub-Specialty Surgery;
- Participate in relevant Continuing Medical Education (CME) programs;
- Contribute to and participate in other administrative responsibilities, as assigned;
- Work collaboratively with peers and care team colleagues in support of patient care
Once chosen, the successful candidate may choose to operate their business by joining an existing independent outpatient practice or form an independent outpatient office of their own. This is the candidate's independent business decision and will not be managed through the recruitment process.
Required Qualifications:
- Have or be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (required with application);
- Have or be eligible for certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada Certification (RCPSC);
- Have specialty certification or equivalent in Plastic Surgery, or currently be enrolled in a Plastic Surgery Residency Program;
- Additional expertise or fellowship in specialized Plastic Surgery areas, an asset but not required.
- Recent and relevant experience (within the past 2 years) in all areas of practice required, as the Most Responsible Physician;
Desired Qualifications:
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS);
- Open to sponsorship, but preference to FRCS or Canadian trained or new fast tracked CPSA licensure from eligible jurisdictions.
