Job Summary:
The Medical Lead, Physician Wellness is responsible for advancing physician health, wellness, and diversity as foundational priorities across Recovery Alberta. This role provides direction to strengthen physician well-being, engagement, and development, guiding the design, prioritization, and implementation of policies, tools, and strategies to support the same and achieve measurable improvements in physician experience and outcomes.
Physician leadership is central to driving high-performing, patient-centered health systems. An effective physician leader shapes culture, fosters accountability, advances quality and safety, and supports teams through evidence-informed decision-making. They build strong relationships across clinical, operational, administrative, and community partners; champion innovation; and guide systems through complexity and change. This position requires exceptional communication, sound judgment, and the ability to engage physicians from across the province in strategies that improve their experience as clinicians.
The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in shaping development of physician health, wellness, and diversity strategies, policies, and processes.
Responsibilities / Accountabilities:
This position will work within the scope of the office of the Chief Medical Officer and support Physician Wellness across Addiction Services, Psychiatry and Mental Healthcare, and Forensic Psychiatry and Correctional Health Services.
The Medical Lead will:
- Work in close partnership with members of Recovery Alberta’s senior operational and medical leadership team.
- Engage with internal and external stakeholders regarding physician health, diversity and wellness initiatives.
- Engage in strategic planning and establishing priorities for physician well-being initiatives including developing, implementing, evaluating and monitoring physician health and wellness across the organization.
- Collaborate in development and maintenance of onboarding and orientation for new physicians and medical leaders.
- Develop, collaborate and organize other physician wellness initiatives such as physician recognition, Schwartz Rounds, physician communications and newsletters.
- Champion physician participation and engagement in wellness initiatives.
- Design and implement efficiencies, best practices and standards pertaining ot physician wellness.
- Provide effective change sponsorship and change leadership.
- Provide ongoing direction to physicians to ensure physician health, diversity and wellness is incorporated with clinical focus.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will have demonstrated strong leadership, excellent communication skills, and an understanding of Recovery Alberta services and programs. They will be an inclusive and visionary leader with experience in medical leadership and be considered a strong clinician by peers.
The successful applicant must hold an MD or its equivalency and shall have or be eligible for certification with the Canadian College of Family Physicians or the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and shall have or be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta.
In addition, the successful applicant shall obtain and maintain an AHS Medical Staff Appointment.
All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply; however, Canadians and permanent residents will be given priority.
Reporting Relationship:
The practitioner will report to the Associate Chief Medical Officer, Recovery Alberta.
Term:
Start date is negotiable.
Deadline for submission of applications is 10 days; however, the competition will remain open until the position is filled.
Additional Information:
This position is 0.2 FTE. Remuneration is in accordance with CMO Policy 01-01 for contracted medical leadership positions.
