Job Description
Dryden Regional Health Centre (DRHC) and Dingwall Medical Clinic are seeking family (friendly!) physicians to locum with our diverse rural healthcare team. New grads are welcome!
Clinical Opportunities:
Dryden’s clinic, Dingwall Medical Clinic (FHO), utilizes the RFMLP program for family medicine locums. As our local physicians are all rural generalists (clinic, hospitalist, +/- ED, +/- OBS), the variety of a work assignment is up to you. Many locums come to just provide clinic coverage, but mixing in hospitalist and/or ED work as well certainly makes your travel to Northwestern Ontario worthwhile!
RFMLP requires an assignment to be a minimum of 4 working days, but our clinic manager usually aims for ~2 weeks (again, to make your travel worthwhile). The Dingwall Medical Clinic operates 8:30am-4:30pm Monday-Thursday and 8:30am-1pm Fridays. Our 42-bed hospital is located on the same grounds as the clinic. Inpatient occupancy averages around 80%. We see an average of 45 ED visits per day, with ~67% of visits a CTAS 4/5. Our ED Nurse Practitioners are currently working 10am-10pm to support both daytime and night shift triage. You can find a few more details about our team and facilities here: https://www.drhc.on.ca/physician-recruitment
*Do you have a resident working with you? DRHC is a teaching hospital, affiliated with NOSM U and University of Toronto. Our Recruiter can help you apply through the NORSTAR program to locum and bring your resident for the expeirence!
*Do you already work in an Ontario Emergency Department? You can also find ED locum shifts in Dryden through the EDLP program!
Compensation:
Under the RFMLP program, you receive a daily rate, which our clinic tops up to a total of $1200/day. Locum keeps uninsured billings in clinic, and hospitalist billing follows FHO fee structures. ED is 12 or 24hr shifts @ $172/hr.
Travel (flights/mileage/car rentals) and accommodations are reimbursable via RFMLP + receive a travel day stipend to and from Dryden ($579.43 each way).
We offer locums FREE access to our hospital cafeteria and the local recreation facility (fitness centre + pool) during your work assignment! We're here to support you with planning your trip to Northwestern Ontario and associated paperwork as needed.
About DRHC:
DRHC is on beautiful Treaty #3 territory, providing local healthcare to the community of Dryden, several surrounding rural municipalities, and the First Nation communities of Migisi Sahgaigan (Eagle Lake), Wabigoon Lake Ojibway, and Wabauskang.
We are a 42-bed hospital, including a 3-bed CCU, 24/7 Emergency Department, and 2 modern OR theatres with 1 fully integrated MIS suite. We have a regionally-integrated EMR (Meditech, current development towards adopting Meditech Expanse), on-site diagnostic imaging (CT, ultrasound, x-ray), labratory services, and nearby pathology (Kenora).
You are surrounded by support when you locum in Dryden. Local General Surgeon and Anesthesia (GPA) are available on-site and on-call. Local physicians provide 2nd on-call coverage and rotating hospitalist on-call. One local physician has +1 in OSS to cover c-sections, with 3 physicians rotating OBS on-call. We have a robust team of clinic administrative staff, ward clerks, and experienced nurses to help you navigate the facility.
DRHC is conveiently located on the same grounds as the Dingwall Medical Clinic and Dryden Area Family Health Team, making collaborative care a breeze. DRHC also hosts a Specialty Clinic that brings in visiting specialists year-round, supporting quality healthcare closer to home. This includes Orthopedic Surgery (knee, hip, spine), ENT, Plastics, Obstetrics, Gynecology, Rhematology, Urology, Pediatrics, and Psychiatry.
