Department of Rural Family Medicine | Meaford Inpatient Care Locums 2025
Brightshores Health System – Meaford hospital is seeking hospitalist locum coverage over the summer months.
This document provides an outline of the service needs and related compensation model.
Weeks Needed:
July 20-Aug 5, 2025
Aug 13-Aug 19, 2025
Sept 17 - Sept 23, 2025
Service Needs:
The Meaford hospital has 17 inpatient medical beds, with the potential for 1 or 2 patients held in the ED (varies daily). Locum physicians would provide weekly support for all admitted inpatients, with the support of the Nurse Practitioner. The inpatient list generally includes approximately 6 to 7 ALC patients.
Specialist support provided via Brightshores Health System and related specialty services. Transfers to Level 2 or Level 3 beds facilitated via the Owen Sound hospital.
Schedule:
Inpatient care coverage is scheduled Wednesday to Tuesday.
Emergency physician handover occurs at 7 AM, therefore the incoming locum physician should be available by phone between 6 AM and 7 AM to discuss patient handover for admitted patients.
Daily rounds typically run from 8 AM to 9 AM, however flexibility is available. Following rounding of admitted patients, physician can provide phone support for the remainder of the day.
After 10 PM, on-site issues are covered by the Emergency Physicians.
Compensation Model:
A blended compensation model is offered as part of this locum. Physicians bill OHIP for direct patient encounters and also receive a weekly stipend of $4,009 to care for up to 13 unattached inpatients.
Note: Weekly stipend rates may be adjusted to accommodate an increased patient load, should the number of unattached patients extend beyond the noted projected volumes.
Travel and Accommodation:
Brightshores can offer interim accommodations in Meaford or through our shared locum condo located in Owen Sound (details to be provided). Should locums have alternate accommodation needs, please contact Medical Affairs to discuss further. Mileage reimbursement for round trip travel from the locum’s primary residence is also provided.
