Position Details
Cambridge Memorial Hospital (CMH) is looking for Full or Part Time Emergency Physicians (EP) to join our Department of Emergency Medicine. EPs will be responsible for both the acute and sub-acute areas of the department.
- Emergency Physicians (EP) would ideally hold an FRCPC or CCFP-EM designation
- Physicians without the EM designations, who have experience and comfort in emergency medicine will be considered
Positions are remunerated through a generous Alternate Funding Arrangement (AFA) with shadow billing as well. More details are available on request.
Shift & Department Details
CMH is a busy, medium-sized ED that sees around 110-150 patients per day (50,000 per year). There are 6 shifts daily and each shift is scheduled for 8-9 hours; all shifts start with duty in the acute region and subsequent transition to subacute. All new EPs will be scheduled in shift overlap with other physicians. Most shift-hours have a significant physician overlap system in place by default, especially during peak volume hours.
The ED is brand new, having opened only in 2020, with excellent colleague and specialist support. There is a 12-bed ICU that is covered 24/7 and internal medicine admits patients at all hours. Other admitting services include general surgery, orthopedics, OB/GYN, pediatrics, psychiatry, and oncology. There is regional coverage for urology, ENT, spine surgery, plastic surgery, and nephrology. The ED has x-ray and CT 24/7, ultrasound 15 hrs 7 days a week, and MRI 12 hrs per day.
Cambridge Memorial Hospital Details
CMH is in the process of completing an innovative Capital Redevelopment Project that has provided the hospital with brand-new facilities in Emergency, Critical Care, Inpatient Medicine, Surgery, Obstetrics, Pediatrics, and Mental Health. With plenty of regional firsts in surgical and diagnostic imaging technology, CMH continues to find innovative ways to provide our staff with the tools and facilities that support our vision of building healthier communities together. CMH is currently underway to implementing a new Health Information System that will meet the immediate clinical and business needs within the hospital and the future need of providing seamless access to health data by our community partners and family practitioners.
We are a thriving community hospital with 190 beds, a high-volume emergency room, and full support from medical and surgical subspecialties, intensivists, and neurology. The Cambridge medical community is tight knit with annual events via the Cambridge Academy of Medicine. These gain attendance from family physicians, ER, Pediatrics, Radiology, General Surgery, and many others to ensure a cohesive and collaborative environment.
We are affiliated with Waterloo Campus of the Michael G. DeGroote School of Medicine, McMaster University, and support academic interests. CMH is also a partner of the Cambridge North Dumfries Ontario Health Team. For physicians with an interest in medical teaching, there are opportunities to have medical learners on shifts as well (medical students and residents).
