Opportunity: Specialist Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation in Acquired Brain Injury
Posting #02-004-25
McMaster University and Hamilton Health Sciences is seeking a clinician educator in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) to join the rehabilitation program at Hamilton General Hospital – Regional Rehabilitation Centre (HHS-RRC) and the Department of Medicine, Division of PM&R. The position is best suited for a physician who is skilled in optimizing the recovery of these impairments with demonstrated teaching ability, research experience and/or Quality Improvement training/experience. Join a group of highly skilled and motivated PM&R specialists and teams.
The successful candidate will practise in a dedicated inpatient rehabilitation setting with interprofessional teams for 6 months of the year. There is direct linkage to the acute care hospital for seamless transfers between buildings. Inpatient responsibilities will be shared with other PM&R specialists and a hospitalist.
The Acquired Brain Injury Program has about 20 inpatient beds for patients with neurobehavioural issues for 6 months per year. There is also opportunity to work in outpatient clinics with this population and a concussion clinic.
McMaster University and Hamilton Health Sciences culture is one that encourages physician leadership and local decision making; this affords us the distinction of outstanding physician satisfaction and patient satisfaction scores.
The Rehabilitation Department provides:
- Interprofessional teams who are specialized in the impairment group in which they work.
- Collegial atmosphere with clinicians who support one another
- An up-to-date facility with advanced inpatient and outpatient therapy spaces.
- Opportunities for academic advancement in research, teaching and QI
The successful candidate will be part of the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Hamilton Health Sciences and will be eligible for a part-time faculty appointment within the Division of PM&R in the Department of Medicine at McMaster University. Rank will be commensurate with experience and expected academic contributions. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the clinical and academic mission of Hamilton Health Sciences and the Division of PM&R.
The Division of PM&R supports a robust residency program. Teaching of residents in the PM&R program and medical students from the McMaster DeGroote School of Medicine occurs on a daily basis clinically and periodically in the Academic Half Day for residents. A growing fellowship program enhances this work.
