Job Description

Position Overview

The Department of Surgery (www.surgery.queensu.ca) at Queen’s University is seeking a temporary Surgical Oncologist for a Locum position in the Division of General Surgery. The candidate will have completed two years of Surgical Oncology fellowship training at the commencement of their appointment. An advanced post-graduate degree (i.e. Master’s, Doctoral) would be advantageous. An academic focus on quality improvement/patient safety, health services research, and/or residency education will be an asset.

 

The successful candidate will be expected to have clinical expertise in managing surgical oncology patients, with a focus on breast and melanoma disease sites. The preferred candidate must have an excellent record of success working in a multi-disciplinary clinical environment. They must demonstrate strong potential for outstanding educational contributions and significant academic and scholarly work in line with the mission of the Division of General Surgery. Evidence of current involvement and commitment to scholarly work through the submission of an academic dossier outlining a plan and career goals is requested. Applicants will also be involved in undergraduate and post-graduate medical education. Submission of an educational dossier is also encouraged.

 

Qualified applicants will hold an MD degree (or equivalent) and have completed postgraduate / fellowship qualifications in Surgical Oncology prior to appointment. Candidates must have or be eligible for licensure by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. Preference will be given to those who either hold or are eligible for certification by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. Applicants must also possess expertise, training, and experience in General Surgery. 

 

As a temporary member of the Division of General Surgery, and Department of Surgery, the successful candidate will also be expected to contribute to the teaching, supervision and mentorship of undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate students.
