Job Description

Rewarding, full-time opportunity for an FRCPC eligible Psychiatrist (Adult and Child/Youth) to work in a balanced inpatient Consult Liaison /outpatient/Mental health Team setting affiliated with the UBC Dept of Psychiatry. Richmond is a diverse ‘young’ city thriving with families in all stages of life. It is located just south of Vancouver, BC.

Richmond Early Childhood Mental Health Program (RECMHP) is located in the Child Health Centre of Richmond Hospital. It is co-located with Pediatrics and Maternity. RECMHP is a community-based public mental health service for children 0 to 6 years of age with significant emotional and/or behavioural problems.

The Richmond School Program is located on Blundell Road behind Blundell Elementary School in Richmond. Assessments and evidence-informed treatments are provided to children in conjunction with their families as well as school-based personnel.

The Richmond Child and Youth Program is located in a community clinic within walking distance to Richmond Hospital. The Richmond Child and Youth Program is a community-based public mental health service for children 5 to 18 years of age with significant emotional and/or behavioural problems. The Richmond Child and Adolescent Program (CAP) is comprised of 3 units: a child and youth outpatient mental health service, integrated youth outreach, and Richmond School Program.

Assessments and evidence-informed largely psychotherapeutic treatments are provided to children in conjunction with their families. A good knowledge of child relational/developmental/psycho therapeutic theory and practice is essential. Prescription and monitoring of medications may be provided as needed. Each clinician assesses and treats children on their caseload and may consult other team members as indicated. Collaboration with other community service providers is essential. RECHMP team members function together as a “Working Group”, with an expectancy to collaborate reflectively.

The psychiatrists may also be involved in the planning, implementation and evaluation of new programs and will participate in the training and education of medical students, residents and other allied health professionals. Opportunities may exist for research projects and group work.

All physicians working in the Richmond Department of Psychiatry are required to participate in the on-call roster.

The physician will be privileged in the Department of Psychiatry. The physician will report to the Medical Lead for Infant, Child & Youth, and the Head and Medical Director, Department of Psychiatry, VCH-Richmond Mental Health and Substance Use. Must have a Medical Degree and be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia. Must hold specialist qualifications in psychiatry from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and have completed two full years of training in child psychiatry. Eligibility for a clinical faculty appointment with the University of British Columbia, Faculty of Medicine is ideal. Candidates must meet credentialing requirements of Vancouver Coastal Health. Additionally, the candidate should have a demonstrated ability to work as a member of an interdisciplinary health team, a commitment to participate in new methods in health improvement and care delivery, and experience working in child psychiatry with children ages 0 – 6 years of age.

Diversity, equity and inclusion are essential to delivering exceptional care and building a great place to work. At VCH, we value and accommodate unique differences to ensure that our staff and medical staff – both current and prospective – have the opportunity and are supported to thrive.

To build a strong and representative workforce, we are seeking candidates who will contribute to a caring and inclusive culture. We encourage applications from members of communities that are disadvantaged on any grounds under the B.C. Human Rights Code, including Indigenous Peoples, people of colour, people of all genders and sexualities and people with disabilities.
