Department of Psychiatry, Queen’s University, Kingston, Ontario, Canada
The Division of Adult Inpatient Psychiatry within the Department of Psychiatry at Queen’s University invites applications for one (1) Full-Time Adult Inpatient Psychiatry position within our 41-bed Acute Inpatient Unit.
Our large academic center boasts a talented team of psychiatrists dedicated to excellent patient care. We offer competitive remuneration, 6 weeks of vacation, 2 weeks for CME activities, comprehensive administrative support, a re-location bonus, and low overheads. On-call duties are required once per month (1 weekend day every 3 months). We have a high retention rate of former residents and international graduates, who bring unique perspectives to our team.
Queen’s University is nationally recognized for the quality of its undergraduate and graduate programs, attracting outstanding students. Located in the heart of the Thousand Islands region, Queen’s is an integral part of the vibrant Kingston community, offering unmatched community spirit and amenities. Kingston is one of Canada’s most beautiful and historic cities, known for its affordable cost of living and convenience, with everything being just 15 minutes away. The city has the highest number of
restaurants per capita in the country and numerous opportunities to live right on the water. Kingston is situated only two and a half hours from Toronto and Montreal, two hours from Ottawa, and just a 20-minute drive to the American border. Kingston is an eligible city for international medical graduates from Canadian residency programs in Ontario to complete their return of service in a dynamic and close-knit community.
The successful candidate should preferably have a senior academic track record and experience in clinical psychiatry as well as a proven record of research focus. Applicants must demonstrate outstanding teaching contribution, as well as proven commitment to providing exemplary clinical service within an interdisciplinary, collaborative environment.
Qualified applicants will hold an MD degree (or equivalent). Candidates must be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. Preference will be given to those who either hold or are eligible for certification in Psychiatry by the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Canada or the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. Members of the Department of Psychiatry enjoy a competitive compensation package, including a generous benefits plan. Academic rank will be commensurate with experience. Faculty and their dependents are eligible for an extensive benefits package including prescription drug coverage, vision care, dental care, long term disability insurance, life insurance and access to the Employee and Family Assistance Program. Employees also participate in a pension plan. Tuition assistance is available for qualifying employees, their spouses and dependent children. Queen’s values families and is pleased to provide a ‘top up’ to government parental leave benefits for eligible employees on maternity/parental leave. In addition, Queen’s provides partial reimbursement for eligible daycare expenses for employees with dependent children in daycare. For more information on employee benefits, see Queen’s Human Resources.
