Candidates must possess a Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada fellowship or equivalent, with additional clinical or research fellowship training. Additional research training and/or degree (Masters, PhD) is a strong asset. Candidates should have a demonstrated record of, or potential for, high-quality research, commensurate with their career stage. The successful candidate will be expected to develop and maintain a strong externally funded research program. The candidate would also be active in developing collaborations. Candidates must also be eligible for licensure with College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. The position would consist of a mix of clinical anesthesiology, teaching, and a heavy emphasis on research.
Given the current strengths and areas of research focus in our Department, preference will be given to researchers working in:
- Perioperative Pain research
- Chronic Pain research
- Perioperative Cardiovascular research
- Perioperative Outcomes research
Qualified applicants will hold an MD degree (or equivalent). The successful candidate will have an excellent track record of high-quality research output and will exhibit strong potential for innovative and scholarly research. The candidate will display evidence of being able to lead independent research. Protected time and appropriate resources are available to those who establish a significant research program. Applicants must demonstrate strong potential for outstanding teaching contributions as well as evidence of an ability to work in an interdisciplinary, collaborative environment. Referees who can attest to the applicant’s expertise are required.
Members of the Department of Anesthesiology & Perioperative Medicine enjoy a competitive compensation package, including a generous benefits plan. Academic rank will be commensurate with experience.
Faculty and their dependents are eligible for an extensive benefits package including prescription drug coverage, vision care, dental care, long term disability insurance, life insurance and access to the Employee and Family Assistance Program. Employees also participate in a pension plan. Tuition assistance is available for qualifying employees, their spouses and dependent children. Queen’s values families and is pleased to provide a ‘top up’ to government parental leave benefits for eligible employees on maternity/parental leave. In addition, Queen’s provides partial reimbursement for eligible daycare expenses for employees with dependent children in daycare. For more information on employee benefits, see Queen’s Human Resources.

It offers excellent lifestyle opportunities and a strong academic environment. Remuneration is competitive within a unique alternate funding plan. The work schedule is flexible, with a large pool of members sharing in the call schedule.
Prior to May 1, 2022, the University required all students, faculty, staff, and visitors (including contractors) to declare their COVID-19 vaccination status and provide proof that they were fully vaccinated or had an approved accommodation to engage in in-person University activities. These requirements were suspended May 1, 2022. However, they remain in effect for students, staff, and faculty in workplaces, including hospitals, where patient care is provided and/or where the work duties or educational requirements of the position involve or support patient care.
The University invites applications from all qualified individuals. Queen's is strongly committed to employment equity, diversity, and inclusion in the workplace and encourages applications from Black, racialized/visible minority and Indigenous people, women, persons with disabilities, and 2SLGBTQA+ persons. All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply; however, in accordance with Canadian immigration requirements, Canadian citizens and permanent residents of Canada will be given priority, including any qualified individuals who have a legal work status in Canada. Please indicate in your application if you have a valid legal work status in Canada. Applications from all qualified candidates will be considered in the applicant pool.
Those interested in this position should submit a complete application package, including a cover letter summarizing expertise, qualifications, and accomplishments relevant to the position. The cover letter should also indicate whether or not you will require a work permit and/or require support with an extension of your work permit in the future. As well, a curriculum vitae and the names and full contact information of three referees should be submitted. Complete applications are to be directed to the Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine (address listed below). Review of applications will commence immediately and will continue until the position is filled.
The University will provide support in its recruitment processes to applicants with disabilities, including accommodation that takes into account an applicant’s accessibility needs. If you require accommodation during the interview process, please contact Anesthesiology & Perioperative Medicine.
