Psychiatrist, Assessment and stabilization unit & Comprehensive psychiatric care (asu/cpc)

Position Summary
A full time opportunity for a Psychiatrist in our inpatient Assessment and Stabilization & Comprehensive Psychiatric Care units, starting immediately. This position is within our elective Homewood Specialized Services delivering evidence-based treatments and superior treatment outcomes. This program is delivered on-site at the Homewood Health Centre in Guelph, in a collaborative manner, with a supportive interdisciplinary team, which includes nursing, social work, occupational therapy, recreational therapy, music therapy and horticulture therapy. In this role, you will be responsible for the clinical psychiatric care of patients as they engage in their recovery journey.

What you’ll be doing:
Clinically responsible for assigned patients including admission, assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, referral, daily care, and discharge.
Clinical care includes diagnosis and management of psychiatric disorders, medication management, referral to the Interventional Psychiatry Service (ECT, rTMS, Ketamine infusion) when appropriate, as well as the interdisciplinary team for individual support return to work planning, and psychotherapeutic interventions
Provide ongoing supervision and management of clinical/patient care including daily rounds and sufficient individual assessments with the patient to ensure ongoing standards of patient care are met
Collaborate with other physicians, nursing staff and allied health professionals in providing optimal patient care within an interdisciplinary team
Complete documentation including admission history, mental status, diagnostic impression, treatment plan, weekly progress notes and finally, a comprehensive discharge summary of the highest quality to ensure the medical record is meaningful and useful and a treatment plan can be established by the team
Utilize electronic medical platforms such as Caseworks and BDM (training provided)
Provide clinical guidance to the program and to the admitting department for appropriate and timely referrals and admissions
Ensure best practice standards of clinical care are implemented and maintained
Support colleagues with patient coverage during physician absences (with NP support)
Complete and submit OHIP billings in a timely manner
Ability to provide ECT treatment to patients at the Homewood Health Centre approximately once per month is an asset
Liaison with third party referrers as needed for continuity of care (VAC, WSIB)
What we are looking for:
A specialist certification in Psychiatry from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or equivalent body acceptable to the Royal College and in good standing with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO)
Experience with diagnosis and management of, complex psychiatric disorders and comorbid mental health and substance use disorders is preferred
Interest to work with complex and comorbid disorders as well as ongoing learning and teaching to continually enhance patient care
Adept at creating an environment that supports team spirit and collaboration across the organization
Inspire others to be accountable through action, decisions and/or communication
Strong ability to create exceptional relationships with clients, patients, customers
Strong ability to negotiate and influence with proven critical thinking, analysis and complex problem solving skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Highly developed organizational and time-management skills
Demonstrated commitment to infection prevention and control needs of the hospital
Working knowledge of Dialectical Behavioural Therapy and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is a welcomed asset
