Job Description

Description:

Recovery Alberta (http://www.recoveryalbertas.ca/), Edmonton Zone, Addiction and Mental Health, in partnership with The Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, Department of Psychiatry, at the University of Alberta (http://psychiatry.med.ualberta.ca/), is inviting applications for academic/tenured track Academic Medicine and Health Service Program (AMHSP) positions.  Areas of expertise preferred include subspecialties, such as addictions, child-adolescent, forensic, community and/or geriatric psychiatry.  In addition, high needs areas of focus include urban-rural partnerships, and novel collaborative care models.  All candidates will be strongly interested in medical education and/or research.

Unlike traditional academic positions, AMHSP positions are unique opportunities that allow for the development of a viable academic career in conjunction with a clinical career. AMHSP positions are ideally suited to clinicians who also value education, research, quality, and leadership as a part of their professional identity. Competitively funded protected time for education and/or research is embedded in all AMHSP positions.

Recovery Alberta and the University of Alberta jointly oversee the AMHSP. The candidate(s) selected for this position will be referred to the AMHSP Arrangement Management Committee to finalize their yearly individual service agreement, which the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry and the Department of Addiction and Mental Health, Recovery Alberta jointly approved.

The clinical component of these positions may include any of the above listed subspecialty areas, and collaborative development of services with, and for, primary care providers.  These services will emphasize primary care that can reach rural populations, including indigenous communities. Consultative, urgent care, and emergency care services outside of large centres are also a priority.  We are seeking motivated academic clinicians who are interested in direct care and who are also highly motivated in development of systems and team-based delivery of care to reach communities and families outside of large centres.

The successful candidate will actively participate in medical education and/or research. In addition to post-graduate residency training, the Department has commitments to education as a part of the MD Program with the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, providing pre-clinical and clinical teaching for core and elective experiences for undergraduate MD students.
Remuneration:
Remuneration for this position is based on the Academic Medicine & Health Services Program (AMHSP). Total Compensation will be commensurate with education and experience and ranges based on a number of different factors and can range between $405,904 to $506,522 per year (2024 numbers).  Total compensation for AMHSP varies by individual practitioner, and the compensation shown reflects the average amounts for this specialty as reported by Alberta Health.

Qualifications:

Candidates must be certified or eligible for certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons as a Psychiatrist with subspecialty training and/or designation in child and adolescent psychiatry. Preference will be given to psychiatrists with previous interest in and/or additional medical education and/or research training. The positions will allow up to 0.5 FTE for medical education or research; the remaining FTE will be clinical services with Recovery Alberta.

Interested applicants are invited to apply online at www.doctorjobsalberta.com by sending a cover letter, their curriculum vitae and the names and contact information of three referees, one of which must be the current supervisor or the most recent supervisor.  The cover letter should outline the applicant physician’s vision for an AMHSP position in the key pillars of clinical service, education, administration / leadership, and, if desired, research.

Please visit the College of Physicians and Surgeons Alberta (CPSA) at https://cpsa.ca for more information about licensing in Alberta. Please ensure you have had your credentials assessed and have an Eligibility Letter from CPSA prior to applying.

The posting will remain open until the positions are filled. All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply; however, Canadians and permanent residents will be given priority.

To assist Recovery Alberta in complying with mandatory reporting requirements of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (R203(3) (e)), please include the first digit of your Canadian Social Insurance Number in your application. If you do not have a Canadian Social Insurance Number, please indicate this in your application.
