Job Description

Temerty Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto (U of T) and The Toronto Hospital Department of Medicine within the University Health Network (UHN) and Sinai Health (SH), Division of Cardiology is seeking to recruit a qualified full-time Clinical Academic Cardiologist with expertise in Adult Congenital Heart Disease (ACHD) and CardioObstetrics to be based at the Toronto General Hospital, 585 University Avenue, Toronto, ON M5G 2N2. The successful candidate would fulfil the academic position description of Clinician Teacher (CT) or Clinician Investigator (CI) and must be eligible for academic appointment at the minimum rank of Assistant Professor at the U of T. The anticipated start date is January 1, 2027 or as mutually agreed upon.

The successful candidate will have completed a 2-year fellowship in the management of ACHD and CardioObstetrics. The candidate will have appropriate experience or formal training in research or education in ACHD and CardioObstetrics, such that he/she/they will be able to collaborate, develop and/or maintain a research or educational portfolio in ACHD and CardioObstetrics. Expertise in echocardiography would be a strength. The candidate will also be expected to work collaboratively to deliver high quality care to patients with complex ACHD and CardioObstetrics at the UHN/SH (585 University Avenue, Toronto, ON, M5G 2N2/600 University Avenue, Toronto, ON M5G 1X5).

The clinical position includes inpatient coverage of the ACHD service, and outpatient management of ACHD and CardioObstetrics patients is expected. A graduate degree relevant to research, education or a related field, or a proven record of academic excellence in clinical research or education, is a strong pre-requisite. The successful applicant will have demonstrated the capacity for independent academic activity in the field of Cardiology, and is expected to advance scholarship in ACHD and CardioObstetrics. Advancing academic training, such as a Master’s degree in a relevant discipline and/or doctoral research training, is considered an asset.

The successful candidate will report to the Division Head of Cardiology at UHN/SH. Candidates must hold an MD degree or equivalent and should have, or be eligible for, certification in Cardiology by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO). The primary language of work will be English. The position will be placed in the Sinai Health/University Health Network Department of Medicine (DOM) Practice Plan and compensation will depend on the amount of clinical work performed, (estimated based on fee for service billing) but will be in the usual range of $450,000 to $500,000, for an experienced academic Cardiologist in the Province of Ontario, commensurate with qualifications and experience. Additional sources of income from Alternate Funding Plans (AFPs) and merit awards from the Department of Medicine may be available. Health benefit options and plans are supplied per institutional policy. In addition, through the Department of Medicine Practice Plan (DMPP), the successful candidate may be reimbursed up to $5,000 in start-up costs for eligible office expenses incurred within the first year of appointment, as well as reasonable moving expenses up to $10,000 upon submission of eligible receipts.

The primary goal of this recruitment is to participate and enrich the educational and scholarly achievements in ACHD and CardioObstetrics; maintain excellence in patient care, education, and research towards changing the lives of patients.
