The Division of Neurology, Department of Medicine at Baycrest Health Sciences and the Temerty Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto, are seeking to recruit a qualified full-time behavioural/cognitive neurologist with an academic position description of Academic Clinician.  This will involve devoting 90% of their time on clinical care, 5% on scholarly activities and 5% on administrative service. The scope of clinical activities will focus primarily on Baycrest’s novel Virtual Behavioural Medicine Program, which involves the virtual assessment and management of individuals with dementia and neuropsychiatric symptoms such as physical aggression, agitation and psychosis, as well the world class Sam and Ida Ross Memory Clinic. Virtual Behavioural Medicine is a game changer in the assessment and management of neuropsychiatric symptoms in dementia and the successful candidate will play a major role in this innovative program.

The successful candidate must be eligible for a Full-Time Clinical Academic appointment at the rank of Lecturer or Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto. The effective start date of the appointment is October 1, 2025 or a mutually agreeable date.

The successful candidate must hold an MD degree, completed an adult neurology residency with board certification from their country of training (if not trained in Canada) or hold or be eligible for certification by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. In addition, the successful candidate must have completed at least one year of training in Virtual Behavioural Medicine for management of neuropsychiatric symptoms in dementia and have expertise in teaching. Lastly, the successful candidate must be able to function proficiently in English.

Baycrest is located in Toronto, Ontario and is home to the newly created Austin Centre for Neurology and Behavioural Support. It is fully-affiliated with the University of Toronto and plays a unique and important role in training and mentoring medical students, residents, and fellows who will have the responsibility of caring for the increasing number of individuals with dementia and related cognitive and behavioural disorders. Baycrest operates over 1,000 beds across a full continuum of senior health and residential care programs with 2,000 staff and 2,000 volunteers.  The continuum includes the newly established Austin Centre for Neurology and Behavioural Support which encompasses the Sam and Ida Ross Memory Clinic, Virtual Behavioural Medicine Program, Baycrest Movement Disorders and Spasticity Clinics, Geriatric General Neurology Clinic, and Multiple Sclerosis Clinic. In addition, there is an acute 20-bed Behavioural Neurology Unit that provides care for individuals with neuropsychiatric symptoms in dementia, as well as a 262-bed post-acute Hospital; a 472-bed long-term care facility; a 190-suite retirement/assisted living home; and a 120-suite residence for independent older adults.  In addition, Baycrest offers comprehensive on-site, home-based and virtual ambulatory services that serve 10,000 clients annually. This position will be based at Baycrest located at 3560 Bathurst St., Toronto, ON M6A 2E1.
