The Department of Emergency Medicine at Queen's University invites applications for the position of an academic emergency physician.  This is a clinician-scientist position, and the successful applicant’s time will be heavily focused on research and scholarly activity.  It is expected candidates will exhibit a history of providing exemplary clinical service and a strong potential for innovative and scholarly research. Applicants should have evidence of advanced research training. Preference will be given to candidates who have an established active research program and a successful track record of research publication and of competing for peer-reviewed research funding. Candidates must also demonstrate strong leadership skills, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work in a collaborative environment.

Applicants must have certification in Emergency Medicine from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) or the College of Family Physicians Canada (CFPC) or equivalent, and be eligible for or have licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario.  Academic rank and funded, protected academic time will be commensurate to the candidate’s experience and history of scholarly contributions. The successful applicant will demonstrate excellence in teaching at the undergraduate and postgraduate level.  

The Department operates clinically at Kingston Health Sciences Centre’s two sites, with an annual combined ED volume approaching 120,000 patient visits. The department provides tertiary emergency care services for the Southeastern Ontario referral region, and serves as the only Level 1 trauma centre in Southeastern Ontario.  The department supports outstanding RCPSC and CFPC accredited Emergency Medicine training programs as well as fellowship programs in Point of Care Ultrasound, Resuscitation and Reanimation, and Global Emergency Medicine.  Support for research and scholarship is a priority, and the Department has a strong national academic profile with diverse areas of research focus including injury/trauma, thrombosis and bleeding, cardiac arrest and resuscitation, global health and humanitarian healthcare, vector-borne disease and COVID-19 epidemiology. In addition, the department has a large education research group with expertise in simulation, competency-based medical education, and assessment.  Faculty enjoy extensive departmentally-funded administrative, statistical and methodologic support.  Members of the department are remunerated through a comprehensive clinical & academic alternative funding plan, with a competitive compensation package and a generous benefits plan.
