Job Description

The Division of Infectious Diseases within the Department of Medicine at Queen’s University invites applications for the position of an Academic Infectious Diseases Specialist – Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) Medical Director. A significant portion of the successful incumbent’s time will be focused on local and regional IPAC responsibilities.

The Division of Infectious Diseases is a caring, collegial, and innovative group that seeks to advance scientific discovery, optimal clinical care and thought-provoking education in all aspects of human infectious disease. The Division offers a full-time tertiary consultation service for the Southeastern Ontario community through both inpatient and ambulatory care clinics at the Kingston Health Sciences Centre (KHSC). These clinics include general & specialized infectious diseases, sexually-transmitted infections, chronic viral hepatitis treatment, the care and management of persons with HIV and providing HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis. The Infectious Diseases group has a variety of active research initiatives, with patient-based research in various clinical trials and quality improvement projects. The Division actively collaborates with other research groups at Queen's and is involved in multi-centre research groups such as the Ontario HIV Treatment Network and the Canadian Lyme Disease Research Network. The Division has a newly accredited Adult Infectious Diseases Fellowship program with active Fellows currently enrolled.

Applicants must demonstrate the ability to provide exemplary clinical service. In addition, the successful applicant would be expected to teach at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels, engage in independent or collaborative research, and contribute to the administrative functions of the University and Hospitals. It is expected that candidates will exhibit a strong potential for innovative and scholarly research, with particular focus on Infection Control and quality improvement projects, as well as provide evidence of a robust academic portfolio with demonstrable teaching experience. Candidates must also demonstrate strong leadership skills, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work in a collaborative environment.

Qualified applicants will hold an MD degree (or equivalent). Applicants must be eligible for licensure in Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. Preference will be given to those who either hold or are eligible for certification in Infectious Diseases by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. Applicants must have training in Infection Control and/or experience in Infection Control leadership.

Members of the Department of Medicine enjoy a competitive compensation package. Academic rank will be commensurate with experience.

Faculty and their dependents are eligible for an extensive benefits package including prescription drug coverage, vision care, dental care, long term disability insurance, life insurance and access to the Employee and Family Assistance Program. Employees also participate in a pension plan. Tuition assistance is available for qualifying employees, their spouses and dependent children. Queen’s values families and is pleased to provide a ‘top up’ to government parental leave benefits for eligible employees on maternity/parental leave. In addition, Queen’s provides partial reimbursement for eligible daycare expenses for employees with dependent children in daycare. For more information on employee benefits, see Queen’s Human Resources.
