Job Description
ACADEMIC NEPHROLOGIST
Department of Medicine, McMaster University
The Department of Medicine, Faculty of Health Sciences at McMaster University and St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton invite applications for an Academic Nephrologist to join the Division of Nephrology in July 2026. Preference will be given to candidates who will have completed fellowship training in Nephrology with additional Fellowship training or experience in Glomerulonephritis and/or Onconephrology.
This is a full-time faculty position for a period of three years (renewable). Academic rank will be commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and experience.
The successful candidate will be a full-time member of the Division of Nephrology and will be expected to contribute to the academic mission of the Faculty and Division. The successful applicant will have a primary focus in general nephrology and will participate in both inpatient and outpatient programs. Clinical duties will include rotation through the MRP inpatient nephrology service that also provides coverage for a mix of patients with kidney disease (including acute dialysis) at St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton, as well as supervising a consult service at the other teaching hospital sites in Hamilton for a total of approximately 10-13 weeks per year. Outpatient clinical service will include a balance of new consults and follow-ups of general nephrology patients, as well as longitudinal follow-up of dialysis patients at two to three sites. Opportunities are available to participate in sub-specialty clinics, including glomerulonephritis, onconephrology, or other specific areas of interest depending on the candidate’s training. Candidates should bring training and experience in education, patient safety, research, innovation, and/or clinical leadership to the Division.
The Division of Nephrology comprises 20 geographic nephrologists including six transplant nephrologists and three PhD researchers who are all engaged in clinical practice, education, and research. The Division provides tertiary nephrology and renal transplantation care to the central-west region of Ontario. McMaster has a highly regarded nephrology residency training program and offers additional fellowship training in several areas including transplantation, home dialysis, genetics, geriatric nephrology, onco-nephrology, and glomerulonephritis. A successful HLA laboratory, renal pathology and clinical research programs provide an excellent academic atmosphere. The successful candidate will be a full-time member of the Division of Nephrology and will be expected to contribute to the academic mission of the Faculty of Health Sciences and the Division.
The successful candidate will be expected to fully participate in all appropriate departmental and divisional clinical, educational and/or research activities.
Applicants should be certified (or eligible for certification) by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and must be licensed (or eligible for licensure) in the Province of Ontario.
