Brief Overview of ED

Our ED sees 30 - 45 patients per 24-hour shift. Major trauma is rare, but with our demographics, many patients are elderly, and we do commonly see more complex patients with multiple comorbidities.

The day shift is more onerous with a range of 20 - 30 patients and the night shift is tends to be much quieter with 10 - 15 patients, and average of 4 or less after 11:00 p.m.

The ED has access to Lab, X-ray, CT scanner, and Ultrasound coverage on a regular basis 7 days a week with on-call coverage overnight.

The number of admissions varies, but likely averages to 4 - 6 per shift. The ED doctor will hand over admission to one of two Hospitalists from 0800 - 2000, after 2000 they will be responsible for care until the next morning handover at 8:00 a.m.

Our ED is staffed with and NP and PA, RNs, RPNs, and a ward clerk to assist with patient flow.

Remuneration for ED Shifts is ~$5,891 for 24-hour shifts, EDLP physicians are remunerated at a different rate.

Premium and Super Premium Rates available for Holiday

Travel is covered through the Northern Specialist Locum Program (NSLP) and includes; travel days, airfare, mileage, car rental, parking.

We have accommodations that can be included through NSLP.

Physician Requirements

• Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada certification in Emergency Medicine, CCFP-EM, or CCFP.
• Licensed to practice as an Emergency Physician (or Family Physician) in the Province of Ontario.
• Have updated certification in ACLS or ATLS.
• Have Canadian Medical Protective Associate (CMPA) coverage.
