Position Overview
The Department of Psychiatry at Queen’s University at Kingston invites applications for a Clinical Academic Psychiatrist appointment with experience in inpatient and the care of older adults with complex and comorbid mental and physical health conditions. The successful candidate will play a key role in advancing clinical care and academic/scholarly service in the field of Seniors Mental Health. This position is to fill an existing vacancy in the University.
This position is designed for a psychiatrist clinician with broad clinical experience and a demonstrated interest or established record in academic and clinical leadership, with opportunities for progressive advancement in clinical administration, program development, and academic governance.
The successful incumbent will be expected to provide clinical services across inpatient, ambulatory, and community settings. Deliver expert assessment and treatment for adults including older adults experiencing psychiatric disorders, and medical-psychiatric comorbidities. Work collaboratively within interdisciplinary teams and with regional partners, including hospitals, primary care, long-term care homes, and community agencies. The incumbent will contribute to undergraduate, postgraduate, and continuing professional education. Participate in and/or lead scholarly, quality improvement, or research initiatives aligned with the Department’s academic mission and with support from hospital resources.
Depending on qualifications and experience, the successful candidate may be considered for senior academic and administrative leadership roles, including Division Chair, Seniors Mental Health – Department of Psychiatry, Queen’s University & Clinical Director, Seniors Mental Health – Providence Care. In these leadership roles, the successful candidate would:
• Advance strategic planning, program development, and system-level seniors mental health initiatives
• Strengthen academic activity in research, education and scholarship
• Foster collaborative partnerships with regional mental health programs, community organizations, and health system stakeholders
• Support faculty development, mentorship, and recruitment within the Division
• Promote innovation in clinical service delivery and academic programming
• Support, communicate and advance hospital/community programming priorities, including inpatient flow and clinical deliverables
• Attend the Medical Advisory Committee and other subcommittees of the MAC, as applicable
• Work with other Clinical Directors to advance research, clinical and academic deliverables of the teaching hospital
Dedicated protected time will be allocated for administrative and leadership responsibilities.
Qualified applicants will hold an MD degree (or equivalent) and be eligible for licensure by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. They will also hold or be eligible for certification in Psychiatry from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (or equivalent). Candidates must demonstrate expertise in psychiatric care, including experience in inpatient, outpatient, and community settings, show evidence of leadership ability in academic or clinical settings. Candidates must also demonstrate a commitment to excellence in clinical care, education, and scholarly activity and uphold Queen’s commitments to equity, diversity, inclusion, and Indigeneity (EDII) in both clinical and academic practice.
