Position Overview

The Division of Respirology and Sleep Medicine within the Department of Medicine at Queen’s University invites applications for a Clinical Academic Respirologist. This is a Clinician Scholar role and the successful incumbent’s time will be heavily focused on clinical activity. This position is to fill an existing vacancy within the University.

The Division of Respirology and Sleep Medicine’s mission is to provide excellence in the care of respiratory patients in our community as well as to continuously improve the treatment and prevention of respiratory illnesses by conducting and supporting high quality clinical research, and by educating students and caregivers in the state-of-the-art clinical practice of respiratory medicine. The Division provides an array of services to the community and broader geographic region though a large ambulatory practice, expanding procedural services in bronchoscopy and pleural disease, and provides 24/7 consultation for hospitalized patients with respiratory problems. The Department of Medicine supports the academic development of clinical faculty through mentorship, allocated academic time, access to research infrastructure, and teaching and research development opportunities, consistent with the expectations of clinical academic appointments.

Candidates are expected to demonstrate exemplary clinical skills and service. Clinical responsibilities will include general and subspecialty respirology clinics, bronchoscopy, and respirology in-patient consultation service. Clinical expertise in Pulmonary Hypertension, Airways Diseases, Interstitial Lung Disease, Lung Cancer, or Sleep Medicine is preferred. Experience in interventional pulmonology procedures including any of EBUS-TBNA, transbronchial lung cryobiopsy, and/or medical thoracoscopy/pleuroscopy will be considered an asset.

Candidates must exhibit a strong potential for innovative scholarly contributions. The Division of Respirology offers collaborative opportunities within our group to support interests in any of: Quality Improvement, Medical Education, Applied Physiology, Clinical Research, Health Informatics, and Knowledge Translation.

Candidates must demonstrate an aptitude for medical education. They will contribute to the teaching of medical students and residents at the School of Medicine at Queen’s University, including those within the core and subspecialty Respirology training programs. As opinion leaders, Faculty members also make service contributions to the Division, the Department, the University, and the broader community.

Qualified applicants will hold an MD degree (or equivalent). Candidates must be eligible for licensure in Respirology by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. Preference will be given to those who either hold or are eligible for certification in Respirology by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.
