The Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at McMaster Children’s Hospital, Hamilton Health Sciences invites applications for the full-time clinical position of Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist with appropriate experience. The successful candidate will join the staff at McMaster Children’s Hospital, one of Canada’s largest pediatric academic tertiary care teaching hospitals, and fully affiliated teaching hospital with McMaster University.
Department and Program Overview:
The successful candidate will join the current complement of child and adolescent psychiatrists, pediatric psychologists, and allied health professionals working at McMaster Children’s Hospital within our acute mental health services. As a member of the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Department, the successful candidate will provide coverage to our 22-bed inpatient unit, 6-bed Mental Health Assessment Unit, Consult-Liaison Service, and emergency mental health service. In addition, there are on-call expectations where the individual will be responsible for responding to referrals throughout the hospital for up to a 24-hour period. We welcome individuals with specific areas of interest, such as substance use disorders and/or neurodevelopmental disorders. Our academic division has strong educational and research initiatives, allowing collaborations between researchers, educators, clinicians, community-based service providers and knowledge leaders. There is an opportunity to hold an appointment of Assistant Clinical Professor within the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioural Neurosciences, McMaster University.
Qualifications:
- The successful candidate will hold an MD and will have advanced training and experience in child psychiatry, with preference given to candidates with practice experience.
- Interest and expertise in inpatient child and youth mental health and emergency psychiatry are an asset.
- Experience with evidence-based assessment instruments and rating scales is needed and commitment to multidisciplinary clinical assessment and evidence-based treatment models is essential. The candidate will work as part of an interprofessional outpatient mental health team with a focus on treatment of complex, co-morbid, and severe mental illness in children and youth.
- Applicants must be licensed or eligible for licensure in the Province of Ontario and hold Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons specialty certification in psychiatry or an equivalent designation. The appointee will hold a part-time academic appointment in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioural Neurosciences. As a member of the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioural Neurosciences, there is an expectation to pay annual department fees at the rate set for part-time faculty.

· This position is located in a host hospital or other healthcare site that has an active vaccination mandate in place. Successful applicants will need to comply with these and any other health and safety measures necessary as part of their appointment.
Renumeration:
· The successful candidate will be entitled to 100% of their ministry billings
· The successful candidate must be registered with Regional Medical Associates to be eligible to collect available sessional funding. Sessional amounts are determined by the Finance Management Committee.
