Emergency Physician (locum) - Urgently Needed to Avoid Closure

Position Summary 

Palmerston and District Hospital (15 beds) is seeking an Emergency Physician to provide locum coverage on August 20th, 2026


Our busy 24-hour emergency department sees approximately 12,000 patient visits annually and provides comprehensive rural emergency care to North Wellington and 

the surrounding communities.


This opportunity is well suited to physicians who enjoy broad-spectrum emergency medicine in a supportive environment with strong nursing staff and collaborative 

specialist relationships.


Department Highlights 

• 24-hour ER physician coverage (8 am - 8 am), on-call sleep room on-site

• Approximately 12,000 ED visits annually, see anywhere from 25-49 patients in a 24 hour period

• CTAS 1–5 patient population

• On-site laboratory services (until evening), NP support in ER, physician back-up available

• On-site Diagnostic Imaging (MRI, X-ray, ultrasound during daytime/evening)

• CT imaging available through our sister hospital within the Wellington Health Care 

Alliance

• Regional referral pathways to larger tertiary centres

• Collegial physician group with strong administrative support


Remuneration 

• Rural incentives may be available

• incentivized $300/hr (normally $225/hour)


Qualifications 

• Applicants must be eligible for registration with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario, have up-to-date ATLS and ACLS - fast turn around for credentialling

• CCFP(EM), FRCPC (Emergency Medicine), or physicians with demonstrated rural emergency medicine experience are encouraged to apply.
