Peterborough Regional Health Centre (PRHC) is a hub for advanced cardiac care in central Ontario, serving as a Regional Cardiac Centre of Excellence for five partner hospitals: Campbellford Memorial Hospital, Haliburton Highlands Health Services, Northumberland Hills Hospital, Ross Memorial, and Quinte Health – Bancroft. The cardiac program is supported by the on-site regional nephrology and hemodialysis program, vascular surgery and a Level 3 ICU.

The Opportunity
PRHC is seeking a General Cardiologist to join its vibrant growing cardiology program. As one of the Cardiac Centres of Excellence for the Central East LHIN, PRHC serves as a regional cardiac referral centre for parner hospitals throughout the region. PRHC Cardiologists provide inpatient MRP cardiac care in our CCU, ward telemetry unit and consultation services to our busy Emergency Department and throughout the hospital. We have a high volume cardiac catheterization laboratory performing diagnostic and interventional procedures, including a 24/7 EMS bypass Code STEMI system. A Cardiac Electrophysiology program is starting in 2025.
The cardiac program is supported by the on-site regional nephrology and hemodialysis program, vascular surgery and a Level 3 ICU Interested candidates would be expected to participate in PRHC’s existing Nurse Practitioner (NP) supported Regional Chest Pain, Rapid Access and Heart Function clinics.
The Opportunity
PRHC is seeking a General Cardiologist to join its vibrant growing cardiology program.
Comprehensive Inpatient and Outpatient Care
• Cardiologist MRP model for CCU and cardiology telemetry ward
• Provision of consultation support throughout the hospital
• Nurse Practitioner support for inpatient care
• Regional Heart Function and Chest Pain Clinics
• Existing Cardiac Device Management Clinic
• Ongoing development of Electrophysiology (EP) services
Cath Lab and Advanced Diagnostics
• Two fully equipped cath lab suites
• Diagnostic coronary angiography and PCI
• Advanced imaging capabilities including Transesophageal Echocardiography (TEE) and Nuclear Cardiology
• Full access to all cardiac diagnostic testing modalities Electrophysiology Program Development
• ICD implants anticipated to begin in 2026 (pending provincial approval)
• Third cath lab with full EP services in development

Qualified candidates will have the chance to:
• Join an established group community cardiology practice, which offers a full range of stress testing, stress echocardiography, echocardiography, Holter monitoring and nuclear cardiology modalities
• Read nuclear perfusion stress tests at a large volume community centre
• Perform TEEs to support our programs patients requiring structural heart evaluation • Participate in PRHC’s existing nursing supported Regional Chest Pain, Rapid Access and Heart Function clinics.
Position Qualifications:
• Applicants must hold, or be eligible to obtain, licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO). A clear and viable pathway to licensure must be established at the time of application.
• Fellowship with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) or equivalent training (e.g. American Board Certification) and eligible for RCPSC assessment.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with physicians, nursing, staff, patients, directors, managers, and the community as required • Eligible for staff privileges at PRHC
• Evidence of ongoing continued medical education
• Demonstrated interest in patient safety and quality improvement
• Level III echo or TEE proficiency preferred but not required
