Job Description

About Queensway Carleton Hospital

Queensway Carleton Hospital (QCH) is West Ottawa’s only full-service acute care hospital, serving nearly 500,000 people annually. With 355 beds and a team of over 2,700 health professionals, QCH is a recognized leader in patient-centered care. Named Ottawa’s #1 hospital by Newsweek in 2021, QCH is known for agility, collaboration, and innovation in addressing healthcare challenges. We pride ourselves on continuous improvement and the delivery of our cornerstone programs, including Emergency, Childbirth, Geriatrics, Mental Health, Rehabilitation, Medical and Surgical Services, and Critical Care. QCH is also a regional host for cancer care, dialysis and orthopedic services. As a patient-centred hospital, an active Patient and Family Advisory Council sits on many hospital committees, helping to ensure that the voice of the patient is truly embedded in our care.

About the Opportunity

Queensway Carleton Hospital is seeking a dynamic and visionary physician leader to serve as Chief of Staff for QCH. Reporting directly to the QCH Board of Directors, the Chief of Staff provides strategic, operational, and medical leadership across the organization. This role oversees medical operations, human resource planning and physician credentialing, quality and patient safety, medical policy and by-law management and physician engagement, while serving as Chair of the Medical Advisory Committee and a non-voting member of the Board.

The Chief of Staff is an integral member of the QCH Senior Leadership Team. The Chief of Staff will champion QCH’s values of Collaboration, Accountability, Innovation, and Respect, while driving strategic initiatives that enhance patient care, foster physician wellness, and advance organizational priorities. This is an opportunity to influence major initiatives impacting physicians, mentor physician leaders, and shape a culture of excellence that extends beyond hospital walls.

The successful candidate will work as Chief of Staff for up to four (4) days at QCH.

Education & Experience

The successful candidate will be a licensed physician in Ontario and will obtain/maintain active or associate privileges at QCH holding fellowship status with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or membership with the College of Family Physicians of Canada. A minimum of five (5) years of clinical experience and five (5) years of senior medical leadership experience are required, along with demonstrated expertise in governance, physician human resource management, and quality improvement. A master’s degree in administration or a health-related discipline and Canadian Certified Physician Executive designation are considered assets.

Why Work at QCH?

Queensway Carleton Hospital is a trusted healthcare leader, delivering innovative, patient‑centered care that builds vibrant, healthy communities. Guided by values of Collaboration, Accountability, and Innovation, QCH fosters a compassionate culture where excellence—and the voice of patients and families—are embedded in every aspect of care. Recognized for our people and performance, our agile teams are shaping the future of healthcare while meeting the region’s most critical priorities.

Joining QCH means becoming part of forward-thinking, patient-centered organization dedicated to quality, innovation, and meaningful collaboration across the health system.

Apply today and take a leading role in shaping the future of healthcare at Queensway Carleton Hospital.
