The Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA), in partnership with the Provincial Department of Surgery and the University of Saskatchewan, is seeking a Clinical Assistant (Neurosurgery) to support neurosurgical services at Royal University Hospital (RUH).This is a contract Clinical Assistant position within a CPSS-approved Clinical Assistant Program. The position provides supervised peri-operative and inpatient support to the neurosurgical service.Clinical Role (Supervised Practice)Under the supervision of designated neurosurgeons, the Clinical Assistant will:

Complete inpatient assessments and follow-up of neurosurgical patients under supervision

Support pre-operative assessment and post-operative patient management

Assist in the operating room only within an authorized scope of practice

Complete clinical documentation and coordinate care with the multidisciplinary team

The Clinical Assistant:

Will never be the Most Responsible Physician (MRP)

May only perform clinical activities authorized by the supervising surgeon

Must practise under supervision at all times

Must practise strictly within a program and scope approved by the CPSS Registrar

Contract position

Remuneration per established Clinical Assistant agreements

Scope of practice and supervision defined and approved by CPSS

Qualifications:

Medical degree from a recognized institution

Completion of postgraduate medical training

Eligibility for licensure as a Clinical Assistant with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Saskatchewan (CPSS) under Licensure of Physicians to Work in Limited Roles

Important: Licensure as a Clinical Assistant is not a pathway to regular or independent licensure. Physicians seeking independent practice must meet all CPSS requirements for full licensure.
