Parry Sound is a 2-hour drive from the Toronto Pearson Airport, and just under 2-hours drive from Sudbury.

Our physician recruiter is available to support accommodation arrangements and logistics, as well as answer questions about what it is like to work and stay in our vibrant community! They will be your main point of contact for support and orientation during your local assignment.

Duration of assignment:

Emergency Medicine locums are needed June 26 to September 7. These dates can be flexible – if you only have periodic availability during these dates, please reach out to discuss opportunities. Ability to stay on and do more regular locum work beyond these dates if desired.

Position Overview, Schedule, and Supports:

Position Overview & Schedule

·        12-15 eight-hour shifts per month, with a mix of day/evening/night/weekend shifts

·        Emergency Department (ED) shifts are 8 hours of single coverage, running 0800-1600h, 1600-0000h, 0000-0800h; extra 8-hour double coverage shift during summer months from 1300-2100h.

·        Average ED volume of 40-55 patients per 24-hour period during off-season months, increases to 75-90 per day during summer months.

·        Opportunity to pick up Family Medicine Clinic and Hospitalist work if desired

Clinical Supports:

·        Physician Assistant available weekdays 1000-1800h in the ED to help with lower acuity patients.

·        Respiratory Therapist available weekdays 0800-1530h for assistance with respiratory patients.

·        There is always another physician on call for ED back up when needed.

·        Local specialist backup includes Internal Medicine (who run a 6-bed closed ICU), General Surgery, Anesthesia, Family Medicine OB.

·        Visiting specialists include Ophthalmology, Urology, Orthopedic Surgery, Pediatrics.

·        CT scanner and x-ray available 0800-0000h, call-in possible overnight.

·        Ultrasound available weekdays 0800-1800h.

·        24hr laboratory on-site.

·        Access to Virtual Critical Care Services (VCC) 24/7 through remote video consultations to help with management of critically ill patients without requiring a transfer to a tertiary centre.

·        24/7 access to the ED Peer-to-Peer program, which provides coaching and support for rural and remote emergency room physicians.

Compensation and Expense Reimbursement:

Compensation:

ED compensation: $232/h + 10% shadow billing and weekend/holiday hourly premiums; rates increase during summer months.

Travel: Travel stipend available, details available upon request

Accommodations: Locum accommodations can be arranged by the hospital; depending on the length of stay, this may include hotel room or rental home.

Additional Incentives:

·        During overnight shifts, access to one of our Physician On-Call suites, furnished with kitchenette, cable tv/internet, and private washroom with shower.

·        Free access to the hospital physiotherapy gym after-hours.

Licensing and Credentialing

·        Locums must hold a valid CPSO license and be credentialed at our hospital.

·        Credentialing for locums can be expedited; please ensure to have all necessary paperwork and information on hand to avoid delays. Reach out to our recruiter with any questions.

·        ACLS, ATLS recommended but not required
