 About Us

Hôpital Glengarry Memorial Hospital (HGMH) is a 37-bed community hospital in rural Ontario that works with its partners to improve the health of communities in Stormont, Dundas & Glengarry and surrounding areas. The hospital is nestled in the family friendly community of Alexandria, Ontario, roughly one hour east of Ottawa via Highway 417 or one hour west of Montreal on Highway 401 or 417 and 25 minutes north of the City of Cornwall and the Cornwall-Massena border crossing, using county roads 20, 34 or Highway 138, and along the Via Rail train route.

 We are a culturally vibrant community with always something to see and do. We have an excellent variety of shopping and dining options for our size. If you love to stay active year-round, we’ve got you covered with year-round soccer, golf, cross-country ski and fat bike trails, snowshoeing, snowmobiling, skydiving, kayak/canoeing, and a community pool.

 HGMH is run by family physicians providing inpatient, emergency and primary care services. Our emergency department provides 24/7 coverage and serves approximately 20,000 people per year. We have in-house x-ray, ultrasound and lab, and a CT coming soon. We are home of the regional stroke and geriatric rehabilitation programs serving the entire population east of Ottawa.  Because of this, we have excellent inpatient Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy and SLP support.

If you are looking to work in a rural hospital emergency department and/or looking to join a FHO with a turnkey family practice, free office rent (in the hospital) for 5 years, with inpatient care we’ve got that too! 

 Incentives

Family Practice

•        $40,000 recruitment bonus or 5 years free rent for those opening family practice on site with a 5-year return of service, OR
•        $10,000 recruitment bonus with a 2-year return of service providing hospitalist coverage with no onsite family practice

Emergency Room Physician

•        Expected AFA base payment as of April 1, 2025, is $210/hour on weekdays, $225/hour weekend/holiday days and $260/hour on nights, as per the new AFA agreement as presented by the OMA; MOHLTC contracts remain pending, so this amount is subject to change. Prior payment was $162/hour on weekdays, $180/hour on weekend/holiday days and $185/hour on nights
•        Expected shadow billing for all OHIP insured services will be 22.58% of the fee codes set out in the Schedule of Benefits, as per the new AFA agreement as presented by the OMA; MOHLTC contracts remain pending, so this amount is subject to change. Prior payment for shadow billing was 10% of the fee codes set out in the schedule of benefits.
•        All OHIP covered payments will be finalized once the MOHLTC contracts are completed and signed based on the new AFA agreement negotiated by the OMA
•        Billing agent provided by the hospital submits all billings on your behalf, with plenty of billing support
•        Extra for out of province billing (Variable amount; we are situated 10 minutes from the boarder to Quebec and we see ~3-10 RAMQ insured patients per 24 hour paid at ~$40 each)
•        Extra for WSIB (average of ~2-3 patients per 24 hour, totaling $170)
•        Extra for private billing ($20 for disability certificate/sick notes, all other uninsured services may be billed at your discretion including uninsured patients and out-of-country patients, forms, driver’s physical exams, etc.)
•        You can expect ~ $6500 per 24 hours worked (assuming 1 day shift and 1 night shift, average volume of WSIB, RAMQ, private billings, and ~50 patients seen in 24 hours)

 Qualifications

• Be a member in good standing with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario;
• Hold liability insurance for medical practice in Ontario;
• ACLS certification (renewed every two years)
• NRP, PALS, ATLS are assets, but not required;
• Clear Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) within last 6-months.
• Bilingualism in French and English an asset.
