Locum Opportunity – Hospitalist Medicine

The Department of Hospitalist Medicine at the Timmins and District Hospital is seeking a locum Hospitalist to provide coverage for the period noted above. A 1X incentive is being offered in recognition of the urgent nature of this gap.

The Timmins and District Hospital is a 215-bed district referral and teaching hospital serving a local population of 41,000 and a catchment area of 110,000 in Northeastern Ontario. The hospital provides a full range of services including Medical, Surgical, Critical Care, Maternal/Child, Long Term Care, and Mental Health.

Details of TADH’s Hospitalist Program

• Typical inpatient census of ~60 patients, with each Hospitalist managing a list of ~15 patients, including 0–3 ALC patients, on a 4-Hospitalist rotation.
• One of the four Hospitalists covers admissions for 1/4 of the week, with admits typically from the ICU or ER. Emergency physicians complete admission orders and hold calls overnight (23:00–07:00) before handing off.
• Admissions are divided equally among the four Hospitalists, with lists balanced each morning.
• Hospitalists are on call for their own patients during the week.
• Strong specialist support including Internal Medicine, General Surgery, ENT, Psychiatry, Orthopedics, Anesthesia, Addictions Medicine, and Nephrology.
• Excellent Diagnostic Imaging department with state-of-the-art CT and MRI.
• EMR: Meditech Expanse.
• Coverage week runs Friday 08:00 to the following Friday 08:00.

Remuneration

• $14,000 – $16,000 per week, comprised of:
  • $4,500 hospital stipend
  • $331.78/day honorarium (approx. $3,000 per week)
  • 100% of billings (estimated $6,500–$8,500)
• 1X urgent coverage incentive: $2,500
• Travel and accommodations reimbursed as per the Northern Specialist Locum Program (NSLP) guidelines.

Position Requirements

Candidates must:

• Hold CCFP designation.
• Maintain CMPA coverage.
• Hold an independent CPSO practice license and OHIP billing number.
• Possess excellent clinical skills and a strong commitment to patient safety and high standards of care.
• Family Physicians or Internists with Hospitalist experience are preferred.
