THE OPPORTUNITY
The Emergency Department at Georgian Bay General Hospital is seeking talented and experienced Emergency Physicians to join our team Full-time. Part-time & Locum opportunities are also available.
Emergency visits range between 45,000-47,000 cases annually. Renovated Emergency Department with an isolation room with an adjacent anteroom, and two trauma bays, all with negative pressure precautions.
THE OFFER
• Currently, GBGH uses an ED AFA Workload Model with a bonus pay structure based on shadow billing thresholds.
• Individual physicians are paid their fee-for-service shadow billing in full if it is greater than the base payment for the shift (i.e., $1200) in addition to the bonus payment structure (***may be subject to change in the future based on the new OMA/MOH 2025 agreement)
• Relocation assistance includes access to subsidized housing during the transition period, along with other negotiable incentives
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
• College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO) unrestricted license that allows the physician to fulfil the requirements of this position.
• Fellowship in Emergency Medicine through the CFPC (Family Medicine route) or the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) specializing in Emergency Medicine. Candidates with experience in high volume and high acuity EDs will also be considered. Mentorship opportunities can be arranged, please contact us for more details.
• ACLS, PALS, NRP and ATLS certification- Demonstrate competency in resuscitation principles.
• Preference for given to candidates who have completed the CCFP–EM designation, FRCP-EM or ABEM Board Certified.
ADMINISTRATIVE & QUALITY
• Participation in ongoing quality improvement and safety activities related to Emergency care.
• Participation in hospital committees pertaining to specialty based on interests.

THE COMMUNITY & HOSPITAL
Georgian Bay General Hospital (GBGH) is a 113-bed hospital located in Midland, Ontario, serving a broad and growing population across North Simcoe. Our catchment includes Midland, Penetanguishene, the Township of Tiny, the Township of Tay, Christian Island, Georgian Bay Township, and Springwater Township.
With an operating budget of approximately $80 million, GBGH employs more than 800 staff and is supported by over 100 active professional staff, 70 regional affiliates and consulting physicians, plus over 100 volunteers from our community. The hospital provides a full range of services, including acute care, rehabilitation, complex continuing care, diagnostic imaging inclusive of MRI, and a Level 3 Intensive Care Unit. Significant investments are shaping the future of care at GBGH. This includes a 2,500 square foot expansion of the diagnostic imaging department to accommodate MRI services, a mammography program set to launch in fall 2025, and plans for a 50,000 square foot expansion to add 24 inpatient mental health beds adjacent to our Emergency Department. GBGH is an established rural academic site affiliated with the University of Toronto and the Northern Ontario School of Medicine (NOSM).
