Evening Hospitalist Opportunity at WLMH

Located in Grimsby, Ontario, in a new state of the art facility which opened in 2025, we are a smaller community hospital servicing individuals in the West Niagara region. Our hospital is largely run by family physicians, with inpatient care presently provided by two daytime hospitalists (available 0700-1700h) and family practice physicians who are the MRP for their own admitted community patients. Internal medicine support is readily available on site for more complex patients in a consultative model. Other available in-house specialities include emergency medicine, general surgery, anesthesia, obstetrics and gynecology, palliative care, geriatrics, and neurology. Additional medicine and surgical subspecialties are available for remote support through the broader Hamilton Health Sciences network.

We are seeking family medicine physicians to fulfill our newest Evening Hospitalist role. Responsibilities of this role will include the following:

• This role allows the hospitalist to be on call from home if living within 30 minutes to patient attendance. Call rooms are available if living outside of this area
• Admission assessments and orders on all newly admitted patients between 1700-2300h (from the ER, unexpected day surgery admissions, repatriations from other sites, etc.)
• Complete history and physical examination, along with the implementation of an initial management plan and orders for the newly admitted patients
• Liaise with appropriate specialists to help facilitate timely care as needed
• Follow-up on any after-hours inpatient concerns handed over by the daytime hospitalists (with potential to assist hospitalists on the rounding of inpatients should patient volumes be higher than usual on a given day)
• Address admitted patient concerns as requested by nurses and other care team members as needed
• Support for critical inpatient issues will be provided by the modified race team, also to be implemented by mid 2026, which will include internal medicine as the consulting physician and ER physicians running codes
• Provide handover back to the daytime hospitalists/MRP regarding any evening issues and new admissions, so that they can appropriately follow-up the next day

Anticipated Start Date: June 2026

Stipend: $450/shift (1500-2300h), in addition to fee for service billings

Hours: 1500-2300h daily. As this role is still in its early stages, we welcome applicants who are interested in taking on this role in varying capacities (ex. few days per week, few days per month, full 7-day week)
