Job Description
The Division of Medical Oncology, is currently recruiting for Family Physician(s) to provide oncological care within our Shakir Rehmatullah Cancer Centre. This evolving role is expected to provide comprehensive outpatient care to patients with cancer, with successful candidates functioning as primary consultants and managing a patient roster. This position involves close collaboration with Oncologists, nurses, and allied health professionals to deliver exceptional patient care within the framework of provincial cancer care guidelines (CCO). Services required include 5 half days per week in the Oncology Clinic and 1 day per week in the Hematology Clinic. The Oncology Clinic scope of work will include a procedures clinic ½ day to perform paracentesis, thoracentesis, Bone Marrow Biopsy and PICC line insertion. Training will be provided. Remuneration is Fee for Service with no overhead required.
The successful physicians will be contributing members of the Division, working with a strong, supportive and collegial group committed to providing high quality and comprehensive care in a community hospital setting. The Division currently features 6 medical Oncologists and 3 Hematologists supported by an amazing team of chemotherapy nurses, pharmacists and administrative assistants. Key responsibilities include:
· Providing comprehensive outpatient Oncology care, including patient assessment and follow-up for breast, colon and lung cancer and hematology clinic follow up.
· Acting as a consultant to other physicians for oncology-related issues and manage a roster of patients.
· Ordering and interpreting tests, including imaging studies, to monitor treatment.
· Collaborating with specialists, nurses, and allied health professionals to ensure coordinated and high-quality patient care.
· Educating patients and their families about cancer treatment toxicities, offering psychosocial resources and counselling to patients and manage general clinical sequalae often linked to cancer such as depression, BP, glycemic control and thyroid dysregulation.
· Providing symptom management, including pain relief and management of treatment side effects.
Qualifications/Experience:
· License to practice independently in Ontario from the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO);
· CCFP Certification from the College of Family Physicians of Canada
· Currently or eligible to hold privileges with Oak Valley Health
· Demonstrated experience or specific training in Oncology is preferred
· Experience and skills to interpret diagnostic test results and make informed decisions
