Position: Family Physician Location: Various community clinics across Durham Region, Ontario Employment Type: Full-time, Part-time, or Locum
About the Opportunity
DocsForDurham is seeking Family Physicians to join a network of high-quality, community-based primary care practices across Durham Region. Opportunities exist across multiple established clinics, offering a range of practice models and patient populations to suit your interests and lifestyle.
Whether you are building a comprehensive family practice, joining an existing team, or exploring locum opportunities, our community provides modern facilities, collaborative healthcare environments, and strong support for onboarding and integration.
Practice Environment
● Urban, suburban, and rural clinic opportunities
● Physicians operate within Family Health Organizations (FHO)(2 linked Family Health Teams (FHT) and Family Health Groups (FHG), Community Health Centres (CHC), and Solo Providers
● Collaborative care with nurse practitioners, registered nurses, pharmacists, social workers, and administrative staff
● Ministry of Health expanding allied health resources and team-based care
● EMR systems in use (e.g. PS Suite), with the opportunity to incorporate AI scribe for documentation.
● Flexible schedules to support work-life balance
● Support for onboarding and community integration
Responsibilities
● Provide comprehensive primary care to patients of all ages
● Deliver all aspects of office-based care, including: o Assessment of new symptoms
o Minor procedures
o Preventive care
o Chronic disease management
● Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to optimize patient outcomes
● Participate in after-hours and weekend coverage with your physician group
● Opportunities for other clinical work, including: o Long Term Care
o Palliative care
o Urgent care
o Hospital privileges, including:
▪ Emergency Medicine
▪ Obstetrics
▪ Palliative Care
▪ Hospitalist medicine
▪ GP Anesthesia
▪ Surgical Assisting
● Participate in teaching and mentoring medical students and residents in collaboration with affiliated universities
Qualifications
● CCFP certification (or eligibility)
● Independent practice license with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO)
● Uphold CPSO and Ontario College of Family Physicians standards of practiceCMPA coverage
● Commitment to patient-centered, community-focused care
● Interest in teaching and mentoring learners is an asset
Compensation
● Varies by physician compensation model:
- FHO+: Capitation model with fee-for-service top-up
- FHG: Full fee-for-service model
- Community Health Centres: Salaried model
● Overhead and billing structures discussed with individual clinics
● Incentives may be available for new graduates or relocating physicians
