About Southlake
Southlake is building healthy communities through outstanding care, innovative partnerships, and amazing people. We deliver a wide range of healthcare services to the communities of northern York Region and southern Simcoe County. Our advanced regional programs include Cancer Care and Cardiac Care and serve a broader population across the northern GTA and into Simcoe-Muskoka.
Our team of 6000 staff, physicians, volunteers, students and Patient and Family Advisors are committed to creating an environment where the best experiences happen. As a recognition of our commitment to quality and patient safety, we have received the highest distinction of Exemplary Standing from Accreditation Canada.
A hospital-based hematology locum position to cover a maternity leave will be available starting June 2, 2025. The anticipated duration of coverage is 8 months, although this can be negotiated.
Southlake is a large 500+ bed full service community hospital with regional programs including cardiovascular medicine and surgery, thoracic surgery, and cancer care.
This is a hospital-based position with clinics run through the ambulatory day care medicine area of the hospital and malignant hematology clinics run through the Stronach Regional Cancer Centre. These clinics are fully supported with nursing and admin staff with no overhead.
There are presently 3 other hematologists who have a mixed benign/malignant hematology practice and one thrombosis fellowship trained general internist doing thrombosis. There are an additional 4 hematologists working primarily at the Stronach Cancer Centre (SRCC); this is a vibrant collegial group which strives for clinical excellence.
The weekly schedule will include 4 malignant hematology clinics at the SRCC and 2 benign hematology clinics at ADC. Additional clinics may need to be opened from time to time based on volumes.
Remuneration will be a mix of fee for service and partial salary support for malignant hematology as outlined in the COMET APP parental leave agreements.
Participation in the hospital hematology on-call schedule will be shared equitably. MRP coverage and GIM call are NOT required. There are opportunities for participation in quality improvement initiatives and clinical research through the clinical trials program if interested.
The hospital has a large internist/hospitalist support system that provides primary care for all inpatients. A collaborative model of care is expected/required of consulting physicians. All subspecialties are well represented including infectious disease, respirology, and ICU. Pathology and laboratory support is available.
Full administrative and office support will be provided.
All enquiries can be made directly to Dr. Jai Jayakar, Head, Division of Hematology, at ***@southlake.ca (🔒 Premium).
This position will be available from June 2, 2025 and will be offered to appropriate candidate.
We thank everyone for their interest; however, only those selected for an interview will be contacted.
