Overview of Hospitalist Program – Expectations

• Two hospitalist physicians will be scheduled per week
• EMR System: MEDITECH Expanse along with 22 other Northeast regional hospitals. (training available)
• Average daily census: 18–19 patients per physician
• High census capacity: Up to 25–27 patients per physician
• Daytime rounding continues from approximately 0700 - 1700 hour.
• Night coverage is primarily phone-based. Physicians are expected to respond and come in if necessary.
• Admissions vary and are evenly divided with the other hospitalist.
• Rapid rounds – 10:00 a.m. with nurses and both hospitalists
• Report on patients Thursday night and handover at 0800 on Fridays
• Locums are responsible for the NSLP documents if applicable

Travel is covered through the Northern Specialist Locum Program (NSLP) and includes; travel days, airfare, mileage, car rental, parking.

Physician Requirements

• Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada certification in Emergency Medicine, CCFP-EM, or CCFP.
• Have updated certification in ACLS or ATLS.
• Have Canadian Medical Protective Associate (CMPA) coverage.
