Alberta Health Services in partnership with The University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, Department of Medicine, Division of Infectious Diseases, invites applications for an Infectious Disease Physician to be based at the Royal Alexandra Hospital (RAH) located in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. The Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry has been internationally recognized as among the world’s top 50 medical schools and as one of Canadas premier health-education institutions. The University is currently home to more than 38,000 students with more than 15,000 faculty and staff.
The Division of Infectious Diseases currently has over 30 Faculty members. It provides clinical services to all acute care facilities in Edmonton, and consultative services to Northern Alberta as well as western NWT and parts of BC. There are established specialty programs in HIV/AIDS, Transplant Infectious Diseases, Viral Hepatitis, Outpatient Parenteral Antimicrobial Therapy (OPAT), Infection Control and Antimicrobial Stewardship as well as close relationship with Provincial microbiology laboratories, and Public Health officials. The Division boasts one of the longest running and most highly regarded Canadian postgraduate clinical training programs in Infectious Diseases. Members of the Division are actively engaged in clinical, translational, and basic science research.
The successful applicant will provide inpatient ID consultation services, including in the Outpatient Intravenous Therapy Clinic, as well as ambulatory follow up of patients post hospital discharge based primarily at RAH. The successful applicant will also participate in equitable city-wide after hours call coverage. Clinical teaching of students and residents rotating on the ID service as well as contributions to quality improvement and patient safety initiatives is expected.
Key accountabilities of the Infectious Disease Physician will include, but will not be limited to Inpatient ID consultation, ID consultation in the OPAT clinic, follow up of patients requiring this post hospital discharge, equitable after hours ID call, clinical teaching, scholarly/quality contributions.
The successful applicant will be expected to apply for a Clinical Academic Colleague Appointment in the Department of Medicine, University of Alberta, which will be considered under a separate process through the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry.
