ROLE OVERVIEW
Sioux Lookout Regional Physician Services Inc. (SLRPSI) is seeking an Internal Medicine GIM Specialist to provide expert diagnostic and therapeutic care in a unique rural/northern setting. Serving a catchment area of nearly 30,000 to 35,000.00 residents across Sioux Lookout and 31 remote First Nations communities, you will manage complex cases involving multiple organ systems and chronic disease management.
Key Responsibilities:
- Specialized Diagnosis & Treatment: Diagnose and treat complex diseases and physiological disorders. Examine patients’ health conditions, collect medical information from families and professionals, and identify obscure or complicated injuries and illnesses.
- Acute & Chronic Management: Provide high-level acute care management for hospitalized patients and outpatient consultations. Manage chronic conditions and help patients reshape their approach to wellness through healthy habit development.
- Diagnostic Leadership: Order and interpret advanced laboratory tests, X-rays, and diagnostic procedures to determine the most appropriate medical treatments.
- Clinical Procedures: Perform and assist in routine surgery and specialized bedside procedures; prescribe and administer medications and complex treatment plans.
- Consultation & Coordination: Act as a consultant to family physicians and other medical practitioners to evaluate patients' physical and mental health. Coordinate primary patient care and refer patients for surgery when necessary.
- Advocacy & Support: Serve as a dedicated patient advocate. Provide deep-level counselling and support to patients and families regarding lifestyle and life-altering health issues.
- Administration & Research: Supervise medical staff; participate in hiring, training, and human resources duties (personnel selection). Contribute to healthcare policy, planning, and may conduct medical research on human disorders or preventive methods.
Qualifications:
- Certification: Fellowship in Internal Medicine from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (FRCPC).
- Licensure: Current license (or eligibility) with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO).
- Expertise: Proven ability to manage multi-system pathologies in a resource-limited rural environment.
- Cultural Sensitivity: Commitment to providing culturally safe care for Indigenous populations.
