Job Description
Position Overview
Covenant Health, in partnership with the Department of Surgery, Section of Orthopedic Surgery, invites applications for Surgical Assistants to support the Orthopedic Surgery program at Misericordia Community Hospital in Edmonton, Alberta.
The successful candidates will work closely with Orthopedic Surgeons, providing surgical assistance in a collaborative, patient-focused environment. This position offers 1–3 weekday daytime shifts per week (07:30–15:30), with occasional evening coverage as required. The FTE can vary between 0.2 - 0.6.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide surgical assistance to Orthopedic Surgeons during operative procedures
- Support safe, efficient, and high-quality patient care
- Collaborate effectively with surgeons, anesthesiology, nursing, and allied health teams
- Contribute to a culture of patient safety, quality improvement, and Just Culture

Qualifications
Required
- MD or equivalent
- Eligibility for and licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA)

- Demonstrated commitment to Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) in a healthcare setting
- Understanding of Just Culture and its role in healthcare environments
Preferred
- Previous experience working as a Surgical Assistant
