The Little Current Medical Associates (LCMA), a team of ten rural family physicians, is inviting locum physicians to join us to provide coverage for the ED at Manitoulin Health Centre. We can build a locum experience that works for you depending on your preferences and skill set. Locums will have the opportunity to work in ED only (with a small amount of inpatient care) or a combination of primary care clinics and ED.   

We can provide a designated local physician mentor for each ED shift if support is initially needed. We also have a call-back system in place if a second physician is needed for challenging cases, sedation, etc.  

Remuneration  

- compensation through HFO Rural Family Medicine Locum Program and the vacancy locum program with travel and accommodation reimbursed, topped up to $250/hour. 

Locum Accommodation  

Bring your family or friends and stay in our modern, executive three-bedroom locum condo overlooking the La Cloche Mountains on the North Channel of Lake Huron. There is a well-equipped kitchen, laundry facilities, high-speed internet, and four comfortable queen-sized beds. The condo is just a few minutes from the hospital, and you can take ED calls from the condo or stay in-house at the hospital in a well-equipped on-call suite.

Facilities   

Manitoulin Health Centre (MHC) Little Current Site is a 16-bed community hospital, that provides ED, in-patient, and low-risk obstetrical care (optional for locums) for eastern Manitoulin Island, servicing a population of about 6 000 residents.   

We receive excellent specialist support from our regional centre, Health Sciences North in Sudbury.  

MHC provides the following in its emergency department:  

- ED peer support program  

- Virtual Critical Care (VCC) support through CritiCall  

-intensivist, respiratory therapist, ICU nurse, and pharmacist available to consult  

- lab, x-ray, and ultrasound onsite   

- Family Physician/midwife OB services on-call 24/7  

- Meditech Expanse EMR  

- pharmacist access 24/7 with NorthWest Telepharmacy Services  

- mental health access with crisis consults 24/7  

- glidescope with adult and pediatric blades  

- Airvo  

- two transport ventilators  

- Family Physician OB services on-call 24/7  

ED Shifts can be 24-hour or split:  

- 24-hour (with post-call rounds day)  

- day shift 8 am to 6 pm  

- night shift 6 pm to 8 am (with post-call rounds day)  

- inpatient care on evenings/weekends, patients admitted by locums or handed-over 

Requirements  

-Active CPSO and CMPA membership  

-ACLS and ATLS
